AIDS Foundation Chicago (AFC) mobilizes communities to create equity and justice for people living with and vulnerable to HIV or chronic conditions. We envision a world in which people living with HIV or chronic conditions will thrive, and there will be no new HIV cases. Our work focuses on advancing health equity, preventing new cases of HIV, serving as a collaboration and knowledge center, being a bold voice for change and strengthening our organizational excellence. We are seeking an individual to serve as our Development Research and Engagement Specialist. The Development Research and Engagement Specialist will be responsible for the identification, assessment, and qualification of prospective foundation and corporate donors. This is an amazing opportunity for a motivated professional to build a comprehensive prospect research program for AIDS Foundation Chicago. This role will also support the development and implementation of AFC’s corporate engagement plan through employee outreach and community engagement activities with companies across the Chicago area. The Development Research and Engagement Specialist will work most closely with the External Relations team to help expand the foundation and corporate portfolio and will also collaborate with the Program Development team. The salary range for this role is $41,000-$43000 annually. Principle functions and responsibilities of this position include the following:
Conduct basic to complex research and analysis of current corporate and foundation donors and prospects and successfully articulate financial and other relevant information into comprehensive research profiles
Research, analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and connections; Databases and research tools include, but are not limited to, Raiser's Edge, Research Point, Wealth Point, Dunn & Bradstreet, LexisNexus, Martindale-Hubbel, Grant Station, and Foundation Center
Work with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to implement and manage a comprehensive program to identify prospects and create strategies for prospective and current foundation and corporate donors
Conduct outreach to corporate ERGs/BRGs to build sponsorships, grants and AIDS Run & Walk team opportunities
Represent AFC at corporate events (e.g., select Out & Equal events, employee giving fairs, etc.) to support relationship building, outreach, and recruitment
Identify, recruit and retain ~50 corporate teams for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago
Develop and send regular e-communications to key corporate and foundation contacts
Promptly respond to all relevant fundraising responses and inquiries.
Work with the Finance team and Program Development Team to ensure corporate and foundation donor and prospect data integrity in the database by maintaining accurate titles, address and contact information, and relationships in constituent records
Keep current with latest trends in philanthropy and prospect research
Maintain and track AFC’s Corporate Partnership Program benefits package
Create and present HIV and AFC 101 presentations for corporate programs as requested
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications
1-3 years of experience in the development department of nonprofit, with at least 1 year of direct experience in prospect research/analysis
A high level of proficiency with Raiser's Edge, and other prospect research tools/databases, and advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Familiarity with prospect research best practices
Proven concern for detail, organization, and timely follow-through
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, to solve problems and meet challenging and changing timelines
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills, including a clear and succinct writing style
Ability to work independently and proactively and as part of a collaborative team
Highly motivated to achieve ambitious goals
Strong sense of self-initiative
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree and 1-3 years of experience in the development department of nonprofit, with at least 1 year of direct experience in prospect research/analysis
Experience in fundraising and making asks among organizational supporters
Basic understanding of the corporate and foundation-based moves management programs
Prior knowledge of the health care/housing preferred.
