Job Description

Primary Purpose:

This position reports directly to the Director of Student Counseling/Disability/Health Services. This individual is responsible for ensuring smooth patient flow during clinic hours and triage of walk-in patients for Student Health Services (SHS). This position will act as a health educational representative for SHS to the LCSC community which may require the individual to work after hours on occasion.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: One to two years clinical experience using a full range of nursing functions including an emphasis on patient instruction. 

Licenses, Certificates and Continuing Education: Idaho State Board of Nursing License and current CPR and First Aid Certificates.  Although continuing education for nurses is not required by Idaho state law, the SHS Nurse is expected to keep current on his or her knowledge and skills related to relevant health topics and practices i.e., Idaho immunization and Sexual Transmitted Infection (STI) in-services.

Good knowledge of:  Storing, retrieving, and compiling information used for educational topics through Microsoft Office software; interacting with others and/or interviewing to obtain elicit, sensitive information; understanding HIPPA/FERPPA and OSHA requirements; problem solving, and working independently.

Responsibilities: 

ASSESSING AND PROVIding STUDENT HEALTH CARE NEEDS

  • Assisting providers during clinic including but not limited to: patient intake, setting up for procedures, assisting provider as needed when performing tests and procedures, collecting samples for testing, preparing and administering injections, applying dressings and bandages, completing electronic lab requisitions, rapid testing, calling in prescriptions, making referrals to outside agencies, providing patients with handouts and follow-up instructions.
  • Triage walk-in patients as needed using standing orders.
  • Reviewing laboratory/radiology values, notifying practitioners when appropriate and treating patients as ordered, including follow-up phone calls and letters.
  • Facilitating Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) testing for students using standing order protocol and notifying the North Central District Health Department according to the notification guidelines.

PROVIDING HEALTH INFORMATION AND EDUCATION TO THE LCSC COMMUNITY

  • Organizing and advertising in-services
    • Provide in-services to the Resident Assistants (RA) on various health topics
    • Yearly continuing educational clinical topics for SHS staff
  • Maintaining resource library for health and wellness topics
    • Summer hours will be used to schedule in-services, and gather materials for the next fiscal year.
  • Maintaining educational relationship with LCSC staff and students.

    • Immunizations
