The Hope College Chemistry Department (www.hope.edu/academic/chemistry/) invites applications for a one-year term position in organic chemistry. This is a full-time (ca. 12 contact hours/wk) teaching position on a 9 month contract to begin August 2018. While this is not intended to be a long-term position, there is the possibility of renewal for another year. The position is expected to be offered at the Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor level, depending on qualifications.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the two-semester Organic Chemistry classroom and laboratory sequence, though secondary assignments may also be possible in the candidate's specific specialty or in non-majors or general chemistry courses. This position does not carry any research expectation; however, the Department enjoys substantial endowed funds to support student/faculty collaborative research for which the successful candidate may apply, if desired. Research may be conducted with undergraduates, alone or in appropriate collaboration with other Hope faculty, during the academic year (and/or intervening summer if the position is renewed for a second year.)
Candidates should either have completed a Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a related subdiscipline by July 2018 (Visiting Assistant Professor), or have a masters degree in organic chemistry or a related subdiscipline with college chemistry teaching experience as the "instructor of record" for the course (Visiting Instructor).
