Job Purpose
Maintains the grounds of a formally landscaped college campus and off campus sites (Patriot’s Point Athletic fields, Grice Marine Lab, Stono Preserve and Lockwood). Performs chemical applications, pond/water feature maintenance and general landscape maintenance. Other duties include, but are not limited to, routine maintenance such as policing the grounds, debris pickup, fertilizing, blowing walkways, weeding, pruning, unclogging drainage as needed, etc.
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or GED and the ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions. Knowledge of commonly used landscape plants and irrigation systems helpful. Pesticide applications license is required. Must have valid SC driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment, as the employee will be required to drive state vehicles to transport equipment and/or personnel as needed. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires knowledge of commonly used landscaping plants. Must be able to operate landscaping equipment/tools, including sprayers and spreaders, and recognize/identify/treat ornamental plant and tree pathogens and diseases. Knowledge of pond and water feature maintenance would be helpful. Knowledge of athletic fields with Bermuda grass, common areas of zoysia grass and St. Augustine grass is required. Must have basic knowledge of chemicals used in grounds maintenance. Must know how to apply fertilizer/pesticides. Knowledge in appropriate pesticide applications, fertilizing and preventive treatments according to state regulations is required. Must have the skill to apply chemicals to grounds/plants/bedding areas using a tank sprayer or backpack sprayer. Required to analyze pesticide and fertilizing treatments and report problems to supervisor. Must read, understand and keep MSDS sheets current at all times. Must have the ability to keep a log to document all spraying and chemical applications and ensure that it is current at all times. Ability/knowledge to perform routine safety inspections on all spraying or chemical application equipment. Must be reliable and responsible. Prefer working knowledge of methods/procedures associated with maintenance of plants and flowers, both annual and perennial. Must be able to recognize and know when and how to treat ornamental pathogens and diseases. Position requires basic computer skills and working knowledge and experience in using e-mail. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is preferred. Experience in utilizing on-line work order systems is a plus. Skill with electronic devices such as iPhone and iPad is preferred. All employees at the College are expected to perform their jobs in a safe manner in accordance with best safety practices as prescribed by their department, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration training as provided by Facilities Management at the College of Charleston.

Must be physically able to perform duties as described, including lifting and handling heavy equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and working outside in all types of weather. Must be able to stand and walk around the campus performing grounds keeping duties for the entire shift. Must be able to drive to off campus sites each week. Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
Two years of experience involving parks or grounds maintenance; landscape construction and/or maintenance or any other labor-intensive work experience that directly involves the skills required to operate landscape related machinery, small tools, power tools, vehicles or equipment.
Must possess a valid motor vehicles operator’s license.
Must possess or obtain within five (5) months of hire a Commercial Driver’s License Class A with ‘N’ tanker endorsement.
Must be able to obtain a commercial Public Pesticide Applicators License within five months of hire.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal record check that includes fingerprinting
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be subject to random drug testing throughout employment

Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen The Solid Waste Management (SWM) program is looking to fill a Litter Coordinator (Natural Resource Specialist 5) position. This position is located in our Southwest Region Office in Lacey, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. In this role, you will have the opportunity to travel throughout Ecology’s Southwest Region, visiting roads and other public lands to oversee crews hired for the purpose of cleaning up litter and illegal dumps to directly improve Washington’s environment. You will work independently to manage a program budget, maintain a vehicle fleet, ensure supplies are in stock, and hire all work crew members. You will work with other state and local governments on litter, illegal dump cleanup and prevention measures and oversight of grants. This position is an entry-level supervisor position which can provide valuable management experience. Duties
What makes this role unique?
This role has a direct positive impact on the environment that is rewarding and highly visible to the appreciative citizens of Washington. There are peak workload periods, typically in spring, however improvements to the program may be forthcoming and lessen this peak. You will be independently responsible for overseeing a litter pickup program as well as local government grants. You will need to align your time and responsibilities accordingly and adapt and respond quickly as situations change. What you will do:
Plan for and manage a 9-10 month seasonal employment program for adult crews.
Plan for and manage a teen litter pickup program with adult supervisors.
Recruit, interview, hire, manage paperwork for and train crew members and supervisors.
Manage and stay within the budget for Ecology’s Southwest Region litter pickup program.
Manage a vehicle fleet and ensure litter pickup and safety supplies are stocked and available when needed.
Ensure crews abide by all safety measures and make decisions quickly about crew deployment in times of high heat, during fire/smoke season and exposure to Covid-19.
Work with other state and local governments on litter and illegal dump cleanup and prevention measures, this includes managing grants and interagency agreements.
Must be highly organized and capable of managing heavy and diverse workloads at times.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Years of required experience indicated below are full-time equivalent years. Full-time equivalent experience means that any experience where working hours were less than 40 hours per week will be prorated in order to meet the equivalency of full-time. We would calculate this by looking at the total hours worked per week, divide this by 40, and then multiply by the total number of months worked. Examples of the proration calculations are:
30 hours worked per week for 20 months: (30/40) x 20 months = 15 months full-time equivalent
20 hours worked per week for 12 months: (20/40) x 12 months = 6 months full-time equivalent

Duties
What makes this role unique?
This role has a direct positive impact on the environment that is rewarding and highly visible to the appreciative citizens of Washington. There are peak workload periods, typically in spring, however improvements to the program may be forthcoming and lessen this peak. You will be independently responsible for overseeing a litter pickup program as well as local government grants. You will need to align your time and responsibilities accordingly and adapt and respond quickly as situations change. What you will do:
Plan for and manage a 9-10 month seasonal employment program for adult crews.
Plan for and manage a teen litter pickup program with adult supervisors.
Recruit, interview, hire, manage paperwork for and train crew members and supervisors.
Manage and stay within the budget for Ecology’s Southwest Region litter pickup program.
Manage a vehicle fleet and ensure litter pickup and safety supplies are stocked and available when needed.
Ensure crews abide by all safety measures and make decisions quickly about crew deployment in times of high heat, during fire/smoke season and exposure to Covid-19.
Work with other state and local governments on litter and illegal dump cleanup and prevention measures, this includes managing grants and interagency agreements.
Must be highly organized and capable of managing heavy and diverse workloads at times.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Years of required experience indicated below are full-time equivalent years. Full-time equivalent experience means that any experience where working hours were less than 40 hours per week will be prorated in order to meet the equivalency of full-time. We would calculate this by looking at the total hours worked per week, divide this by 40, and then multiply by the total number of months worked. Examples of the proration calculations are:
30 hours worked per week for 20 months: (30/40) x 20 months = 15 months full-time equivalent
20 hours worked per week for 12 months: (20/40) x 12 months = 6 months full-time equivalent

Job Description:
Responsible for performing responsible protective service work in fire suppression and in providing emergency medical care to save life and property. An employee in this class is responsible for performing all functions and services of firefighting and emergency medical rescue. What you will do! You will work at Sunset Bay State Park near Coos Bay, Oregon. This recruitment is for one, full-time, permanent position and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. This is a Management Service position that exercises supervisory authority over assigned staff. As a Park Ranger Supervisor, you will provide direct, day-to-day supervision of paid permanent, seasonal and temporary employees and volunteer staff in the protection of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, and in the maintenance, operation and repair of state park structures, facilities, equipment and utility systems as an assistant to a Park Manager.
The following duties may be performed, but are not limited to:
Project/Program Management (50%)
Conduct boundary inspections for trespass violations; inspect properties for negative impacts to natural and cultural resources.

Staff Supervision (30%)
Directly plan and supervise the maintenance, operation and interpretation, rehabilitation and construction activities for all park properties within the management unit. Crews may consist of permanent, seasonal, and/or temporary State Park employees, Oregon Youth Corps, Department of Corrections inmates, juvenile inmates, court appointed volunteers, private employment agency clients, cooperating association members and other group or individual volunteers.Specific duties may include: Prioritizing the tasks to be accomplished and planning the means for their accomplishment; developing work schedules and assigning and reassigning tasks to accomplish prescribed work; giving direction concerning work procedures and transmitting established standards of performance to workers or team leaders; insuring that materials and equipment to complete the tasks are on hand; reviewing work of employees for conformance to standards and assessing workers' performance.

This is a Management Service position that exercises supervisory authority over assigned staff. As a Park Ranger Supervisor, you will provide direct, day-to-day supervision of paid permanent, seasonal and temporary employees and volunteer staff in the protection of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, and in the maintenance, operation and repair of state park structures, facilities, equipment and utility systems as an assistant to a Park Manager.
The following duties may be performed, but are not limited to:
Project/Program Management (50%)
Conduct boundary inspections for trespass violations; inspect properties for negative impacts to natural and cultural resources.

Dispose of surplus property by following approved procedures.

Provide opportunities for and actively seek volunteer participation in park maintenance and operations projects and visitor services programs. Work with Friends groups, Partners-in Parks, camp hosts, extended service hosts and volunteer individuals or groups to supplement paid staff. Provide training, materials, tools and equipment where necessary.
Provide training, materials, tools and equipment to volunteers to enable them to accomplish their work.
Research and promote the most efficient and cost-effective methods of park maintenance and operations while insuring that OPRD maintenance standards are met on all facilities and properties. Ensure that accurate methods are used to monitor the inventory and condition of equipment, facilities, utility systems, natural and cultural resources.
Oversee difficult or complex assignments in landscape maintenance, facility and utility system maintenance, repair and rehabilitation and new construction. Such assignments may require blueprint and contract reading, carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring, masonry, asphalting, painting and other construction knowledge or skills.
Work with the district manager and OPRD staff to effectively manage natural and cultural resources within OPRD guidelines and in a manner which will protect resource values, especially native plants and rare, threatened and endangered species, significant wetlands, and cultural or historic properties contained on park lands within the Sunset Bay Management Unit.
Inspect park properties and facilities to identify potential hazards; take appropriate and necessary measures to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
Insure that data and photographs concerning assets and projects in OPRIS is current.
Use OPRIS as a planning and scheduling tool for maintenance and construction activities within the Sunset Bay Management Unit.
Insure that completed maintenance and construction activity data is entered in OPRIS.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Staff Supervision (30%)
Directly plan and supervise the maintenance, operation and interpretation, rehabilitation and construction activities for all park properties within the management unit. Crews may consist of permanent, seasonal, and/or temporary State Park employees, Oregon Youth Corps, Department of Corrections inmates, juvenile inmates, court appointed volunteers, private employment agency clients, cooperating association members and other group or individual volunteers.Specific duties may include: Prioritizing the tasks to be accomplished and planning the means for their accomplishment; developing work schedules and assigning and reassigning tasks to accomplish prescribed work; giving direction concerning work procedures and transmitting established standards of performance to workers or team leaders; insuring that materials and equipment to complete the tasks are on hand; reviewing work of employees for conformance to standards and assessing workers' performance.
Supervise the implementation and operation of OPRD revenue programs, including camp site reservation/registration, group and club camping, day use fee collection and group picnic reservations, yurts and special events.

Conduct business according to the current SEIU/OPRD contract; respond to grievances at level 1.
Visitor Services (15%)
Develop special events and programs, in cooperation with OPRD and Region Visitor Services Teams, to attract park visitors and provide recreational opportunities and the interpretation of natural and cultural resources.
Obtain visitor compliance with park area rules and regulations.Issue written warnings and park citations and notices of exclusion as necessary.
Insure that factual, interesting information about local attractions and OPRD properties and programs is provided to park visitors, news media, service clubs and civic organizations. See that "Jr. Ranger" and evening "campfire" programs are in major campgrounds during the summer season.
Inspect park properties and facilities to identify potential hazards; take necessary measures to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
Explain park rules and regulations to park visitors;
Seek voluntary visitor compliance with park area rules and regulations; issue verbal and written warnings as necessary;
Issue citations for rule violations as necessary; prepare related reports; testify in court as required;

Office Oversight (5%)
Supervise office activities to ensure that various field reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner, including: payroll, periodic and special operations reports, purchasing documents, cash handling and revenue reporting procedures.
Maintain timely and accurate equipment service records, safety inspection reports, hazardous tree surveys, capital inventory and other records as required.

What you will do:
As a Seasonal Park Ranger 1 you will be responsible for enforcement duties including but not limited to: enforcing park area rules through the use of education and advisement, and possibly being commissioned to issue written warnings and citations; patrolling park areas and facilities, checking for misuse, undesirable activities, and hazardous situations; providing information and resource interpretation to park visitors and others; collecting and processing fees and charges with computerized registration equipment; and using best practices to protect cultural, historic and natural resources if tasked with specific resource duties.

Additionally, you will maintain, repair and construct buildings or structures requiring basic carpentry skills, painting, and the use of hand and power tools.
