Job Description:

The American Red Cross is hiring an Oracle DBA to join our dynamic IT department. Our Oracle DBA will maintain one or more complex Production Databases. Implement procedures to control access and allocation of data, and maintain security controls. Monitor and troubleshoot Production databases and maintain database definitions and documentation.

Job Description Responsibilities:

  • Act as a Lead for database engineers, database administrators to design, build, support and deliver database solutions.

  • Provide software installation and engineering support

  • Experience in Install/configure and Maintain various Oracle technologies such as Oracle 11gR2/12cR1/12cR2 RAC, Oracle ASM, Oracle Streams, Oracle Change Data Capture (CDC), Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).

  • Document and validate Database install/configuration procedures

  • Experience in Oracle Active Data guard, TDE, Audit Vault, Oracle Compression.

  • Experience in Configuring, Monitoring and Creating Dashboards in OEM 12c/13c

  • Experience in implementing and debugging Oracle GoldenGate 12c.

  • Implement and Monitor RMAN Backup and Recovery Strategies for the Databases.

  • Create High/Low Level Design Specifications and Environment Design Documents (including storage area network planning design), Infrastructure Qualification Plans and Qualification Report Documents for Lower Platform components to be used for the application deployment efforts

  • Build qualified and regulated environments to deploy application according to schedule

  • Ensure lower platform installation, configuration, qualification procedures are documented

  • Ensure Operational transition and support plans are documented

  • Provide weekly status reporting on all active projects to management and key stakeholders

  • Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.

  • Formulate policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management,

  • and monitor transaction activity and utilization.

  • Establish and maintain security and integrity controls.

  • Proactively identify future areas of opportunity to improve delivery of service to client

  • Transitions the system from design/build to implementation status to on-going maintenance status at the end of all rollout phases.

  • Be part of the team that will to plan, develop, design, and implement new elements of IT infrastructure needed for the application; the team will include IT architects, ITIL process owners, and service delivery teams.

  • Perform quality control audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper usage of data in tables and various support tools, such as database dictionaries.

  • Be part of the team to develop the Conceptual Architecture Design, Logical Technical Model and Physical Technical Model. Collaborate with the infrastructure service provider to develop and implement the Physical Technical Model; integrate new design features with the existing IT infrastructure; and tune and optimize existing IT infrastructure.

  • Ensure the IT infrastructure, systems and processes meet quality management and FDA standards.

  • Participate in the service restoration and root cause analysis/corrective action processes.

  • Aggressively pursue cost savings opportunities through improved design and operations.

  • Participate in the periodic audits of retained and outsourced IT infrastructure to comply with IT standards.


Education: 4-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Computer Science, Information Systems, or related


Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years required

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements: Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read

technical information. Overall mobility is essential. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle and working under challenging conditions.

Work Conditions: Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work. May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. Because the Red Cross is a disaster response

organization, staff may be asked to be on 24-hour call during period of major disaster.
