Job Description:

Responsible for administration and coordination of daily WIC services at offices; supervise and be responsible for staff at satellite sites; provide nutrition education activities to WIC participants to assure quality service; interpret / promote WIC services to the community; and perform related duties as may be assigned.

Responsibilities:

This positions will be based out of the WIC University Office

Responsible for administration and coordination of daily WIC services 30%

  • Coordinates the day-to-day functions that support the site(s).
  • Contributes to agency’s caseload, breastfeeding promotion and support, and other department goals.
  • Complies with all fiscal and operational requirements prescribed by the American Red Cross and the State WIC Branch, including those outlined in Red Cross employee handbook.
  • Make sure site is in a clean, safe and orderly condition consistent with chapter standards.
  • Assists Service Area and Assistant Managers with general administration of the ARC WIC Program and performs all manager duties in their absence.
  • Audits and evaluates services provided for effectiveness as needed.
  • Participates in outreach activities as needed.
  • Work in various positions to support co-workers and participants.

Responsible for administration of satellite site(s) 24%

  • Oversees entire operation at satellite site.
  • Supervises office activity and staff while at satellite offices.
  • Ensures all operational requirements prescribed by the American Red Cross and the State WIC Branch are met.
  • Prepares monthly schedules.
  • Provides individual and group education to participants and documents all pertinent information in ISIS.
  • Trouble-shoots ISIS equipment and contacts appropriate personnel if problems persist.
  • Ensures adequate safeguards for the protection and security of WIC property and food instruments while in transit and at satellite offices.

Promote and interpret WIC services to the Community 5%

  • Accurate interpretation of WIC policies and procedures are provided formally and informally.
  • Participates in outreach activities as needed.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduation from a four year college or university.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration or be eligible for Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Employees eligible for registration must pass RD exam within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of the WIC program and maternal child health preferred. Bilingual preferred.

Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in social service or related environment.

Management Experience: Supervisory experience preferred

Skills and Abilities: Current knowledge of public health nutrition and maternal and child health concepts. Masters degree in related field preferred. Excellent verbal/written communication skills required. Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment and to work with a multi-cultural staff and participant population.

Other: Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Travel: May require some travel.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:

Work Schedule and Location: Normal hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. including some Saturdays and evenings; flexible schedule as approved by supervisor. Depending on need, may be asked to work at various Red Cross WIC locations in San Diego County.

Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights up to 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential including sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle and working under challenging conditions.

Work Conditions:

Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work. May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. Because the Red Cross is a disaster response organization, staff may be asked to be on 24-hour call during period of major disaster. Should this occur, salary compensation would be given in accordance with the law.
