The Senior Systems Administrator will be part of a team of a talented IT support staff that demonstrate superb technical competency, deliver mission critical infrastructure support while ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security for all ACLU National offices.  The candidate must be a forward thinking individual with a high degree of customer service focus and excellent communication skills while serving as a liaison between infrastructure and general operations of all ACLU National offices to ensure ACLU staff can work effectively to meet organizational goals.  Additional responsibilities will include serving as escalation point of contact for a variety of business unit specific IT services and applications and managing the procurement and asset management of IT equipment.  The Senior Systems Administrator will report to the Associate Director, Information and Technology Services in the Information Technology Department.



  • Coordinate and collaborate with managed service providers, business units, and internal IT administration to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of ACLU servers and infrastructure to meet business demands.
  • Develop new system and application implementation plans and testing procedures as needed for ACLU business units to ensure operational reliability and expected performance.
  • Serve a primary ACLU technical liaison for managed services vendor to maintain and manage IT infrastructure and ensure performance and availability.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the ACLU’s IT security program to ensure that systems are secure and process and procedures are adopted.  Maintains and enhances security processes and protocols to ensure they evolve in line with industry best practices and new technologies.
  • Act as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.
  • Manage enterprise directory services and supporting server infrastructure to ensure secure and uninterrupted access to ACLU systems. Responsible for the planning, monitoring, and recording software license and/or hardware assets to ensure compliance with vendor contracts.
  • Assists in forming procurement strategies to optimize technology spend across the organization, and develop and implement procedures for tracking company assets throughout their intended lifecycles.
  • Serves as subject matter expert and Tier 2 escalation point for infrastructure issues.
  • Make recommendations to improve efficiencies through development and adoption of best practices and standardized procedures.
  • Provide Tier 2 support and administration of ACLU business applications such as Document Management System, Secure FTP, Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Microsoft Azure, and SharePoint.
  • Utilize project management skills to manage full life cycle of small to medium sized projects.
  • Participate in the planning of the IT strategy and budgeting processes.
  • Manage special projects as assigned.
  • On-call coverage will be required on a rotational basis.
  • Some travel will be required.



  • Working knowledge of network topology and terminology including SMTP, SNMP, DNS and SSL
  • Associate’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field; and three years of related experience; or a minimum of 5 years’ related work experience.
  • Must possess complete technical comprehension of server and desktop operating systems, network architectures and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and set up administrative systems.
  • Ability to compile, assimilate, understand, and communicate information to various groups.
  • Advanced knowledge in administrating Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, Office 365, DMS, and Mobile Device Management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Mobile applications.  Not for profit technology and software knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment.
  • Familiarity with project management processes.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed with ability to set and manage priorities judiciously.
  • Strong written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
