PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

For youth focus will present story times, outreach programs to schools, and coordinates library reading programs and other programs for children; provides outreach services to schools and daycares.
For adult focus will partner with outside organizations and businesses to meet the needs of the community; provide outreach services to senior living facilities and community service centers.
Arranges programs for the public which promote the use of library materials and services.
Creates bibliographies for public distribution.
Limited supervisory responsibility as specifically delegated by the branch supervisor.
Explains library regulations and procedures, and resolves basic patron issues.
Works with Community Relations to promote programs and services.
Provides public instruction in the use of library e-resources, computers, digital devices and other new resources and equipment available to customers.
Gives tours, visits school and senior centers, and provides community outreach.
Provides research assistance to customers using all resources available in the Library as well as accessing outside resources.
Stays current on library use trends and suggests titles for purchase.
Assists at the self-service station with fines, check-ins and check-outs.
Prepares reports regarding programs as requested by the Branch Manager.
Supports team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by maintaining awareness of surroundings and working in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
Participates in regularly scheduled department meetings. Attends All Staff Development Days and other training sessions to acquire new skills and to stay current on all information that is pertinent to PCCLD.
Reads daily organizational communications from intranet, e-mail, newsletters and print announcements. Stays current on all library services, programs and events throughout the district. Regularly accesses electronic time keeping, payroll and personnel employee access systems.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as the Person in Charge (PIC) at other library locations occasionally; duties include oversight of safety, building security and of the security guard on duty.
Performs other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Masters Degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association. One year of public library experience strongly preferred.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

The Project Officer will manage enterprise workflow, from data, to analytic processes, to results critique, to improvement. To create the needed indicators, the position manages collation of all available relevant quantitative data, from both external sources and other teams within IHME. The Project Officer will help facilitate the modeling of estimates and help to manage various analytic processes that are used to apply innovative analytic methods. Finally, they will ensure the results are vetted and eventually disseminated appropriately through a variety of mechanisms such as web presence, interactive tools and data visualizations, conference presentations, scientific publications, and materials for non-scientific audiences.
To succeed, the Project Officer must develop a sufficient understanding of the Resource Tracking team’s intellectual and analytic approach, as well as the inner workings, timelines, and goals. They must also become conversant in the quantitative methods and modeling approaches used by the research team. In addition to becoming articulate about methods and results, the Project Officer must be adept at facilitating communication among technical and project staff with varying degrees of experience and from a variety of cultural settings and disciplines. Manage overall workflow of team in close collaboration with Principal Investigator and senior staff on projects. Develop overall work-plan timeline and task assignments.

Hope College is seeking the next Mary Riepma Ross Director of Special Collections, an endowed, 11 month non-tenure track faculty position within the library. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this position is responsible for the management of physical and financial resources, planning and implementation of programming and policies, teaching, community outreach and security of archival and rare book collections. The Archivist ensures that the collections represent the broadest possible spectrum of viewpoints and human experience in accordance with Hope’s commitment to equity and inclusion.
Special Collections at Hope College include the Joint Archives of Holland, and the Van Wylen Library Rare Books Collection . The Archives is housed in the Theil Research Center on Hope College’s campus. It serves as a regional center for local history research, specializing in Hope College, the history of the Dutch in America and the Holland, Michigan, area. The Archives has a strong record of mentoring undergraduate research and writing. The collections include works and writings from Hope College students and faculty, records from administrative offices, photographs, recordings, and videos documenting the history of the College from 1866 to present, the community of Holland, and Reformed Church in America missionaries. It currently shares the building with the Van Raalte Institute . ArchiveSpace was implemented in 2021 and many of the digitized materials are held in Digital Commons and in Artstor Public Collections , two online repositories. As a member of the library staff, this position works closely with nine faculty librarians and serves on the Library Leadership Team.
The Rare Books Collection at Van Wylen LIbrary, contains many rare Bibles, and volumes related to art, religion, Dutch history, Asian history and the history of science and aspires to be illustrative of the history of books and print culture.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of the Archives’ development, including implementing the program, mission statement and collections policy, and representing the Joint Archives in the community.
Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and outside researchers using archives and rare book materials.
Provide course-integrated instruction to college classes and collaborate with faculty on the integration of special collections into the college curriculum.
Develop processing priorities for the archival collections of Hope College and Western Theological Seminary and oversee their principle processing and management.
Work with potential and past donors to collect archival materials and evaluate potential gifts of rare books.
Provide access to archival collections through archival management software.
Work closely with other librarians to preserve original materials, digitize and provide access to digitized content.
Hire, train, and supervise staff, student assistants and volunteers.

Qualifications
Required:
ALA-accredited MILS/MLS with a specialized archival training component.

The Archives is housed in the Theil Research Center on Hope College’s campus. It serves as a regional center for local history research, specializing in Hope College, the history of the Dutch in America and the Holland, Michigan, area. The Archives has a strong record of mentoring undergraduate research and writing. The collections include works and writings from Hope College students and faculty, records from administrative offices, photographs, recordings, and videos documenting the history of the College from 1866 to present, the community of Holland, and Reformed Church in America missionaries. It currently shares the building with the Van Raalte Institute . ArchiveSpace was implemented in 2021 and many of the digitized materials are held in Digital Commons and in Artstor Public Collections , two online repositories. As a member of the library staff, this position works closely with nine faculty librarians and serves on the Library Leadership Team.
The Rare Books Collection at Van Wylen LIbrary, contains many rare Bibles, and volumes related to art, religion, Dutch history, Asian history and the history of science and aspires to be illustrative of the history of books and print culture.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of the Archives’ development, including implementing the program, mission statement and collections policy, and representing the Joint Archives in the community.
Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and outside researchers using archives and rare book materials.
Provide course-integrated instruction to college classes and collaborate with faculty on the integration of special collections into the college curriculum.
Develop processing priorities for the archival collections of Hope College and Western Theological Seminary and oversee their principle processing and management.
Work with potential and past donors to collect archival materials and evaluate potential gifts of rare books.
Provide access to archival collections through archival management software.
Work closely with other librarians to preserve original materials, digitize and provide access to digitized content.
Hire, train, and supervise staff, student assistants and volunteers.
Write or identify writers for Joint Archives publications, design and implement archival material displays, civic and educational presentations.
Work with Hope College academic departments to collect and preserve college records.
Maintain an active program of professional development and scholarship through participation in seminars, workshops and conferences.
Qualifications
Required:
ALA-accredited MILS/MLS with a specialized archival training component.
Three years of experience in an academic library and a combination of experience or course work with archival processing, cataloging, electronic records, digitization, teaching or reference services.
Excellent oral and written communications skills, demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team
Ability to understand diverse perspectives and acknowledge the significance of differences and complexities in background, cultures, values and viewpoints as the foundation for an inclusive environment
An understanding of and commitment to the undergraduate liberal arts college, the Mission of Hope College, and the historic Christian faith.
Preferred:
Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications including digital audio and visual software tools and current archival software systems.
Demonstrated history of supervisory experience and strong interest in supervising or mentoring others.
