Corporate Partnerships Strategy and Execution

Conduct regular analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to inform ongoing priorities and adjust course where needed in order to ultimately meet ambitious annual goals aligned with organization OKRs and strategic plan
Funder Cultivation and Stewardship
Source, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of high-capacity corporations and foundations by developing and executing tailored cultivation and engagement plans
Develop and maintain fluency in Making Waves Education Foundation and Making Waves Academy programs and operations
Strategically leverage the CEO, Chief Development Officer, board members, and other senior leaders to steward and engage donors, including preparing these individuals for successful funder interactions
Compose tailored grant narratives, pitches, and employee engagement opportunities for high-stakes corporate and foundation donors, including reports, proposals, and donor correspondence
Collaborate with Making Waves Academy team to cultivate/steward current and prospective corporate and foundation funders
Maintain up-to-date donor records for relationships to ensure accuracy of account information, interaction history, and proposal/report submissions
Assess Bay Area corporate and foundation philanthropy landscape through research and prospecting databases, identifying and qualifying new and lapsed funders for outreach and cultivation efforts
Contribute to important cross-functional projects
Serve as a member of the Leadership Team
Participate in organization-wide systems, processes, and rituals (e.g., annual and quarterly goal setting, employee engagement surveys, All Hands); commit to providing feedback to improve our work in the future.

KEY EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
What you’ve accomplished (required):
5+ years of experience in nonprofit leadership or institutional fundraising with a proven record of achieving ambitious goals
Prior experience working in K-12 education, external partnerships, or strategy highly preferred

ABOUT MAKING WAVES EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Making Waves Education Foundation is an education nonprofit that students historically underserved and underrepresented to pursue college and career pathways that set them up for a thriving career, financial independence, and a choice-filled life.
We support Making Waves Academy (MWA), a 5-12 grade public charter school in Richmond, CA. After high school graduation, each of our students (we call them “Wave-Makers”) is invited to join our college success and early career program, where they can receive a need-based scholarship, one-to-one college coaching, and financial literacy training. Each year, we support over 1,200 5th – 12th graders and over 500 college students on their journeys to and through college. In 2020, Making Waves Foundation launched a new strategic plan to serve more students and families. We will do this by taking the best of what we’ve learned at Making Waves Academy about college access and the best of what we’ve learned at Making Waves Foundation about college success and work to increase the college attendance and graduation rate for low-income students across Contra Costa County and beyond.

Funder Cultivation and Stewardship
Source, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of high-capacity corporations and foundations by developing and executing tailored cultivation and engagement plans
Develop and maintain fluency in Making Waves Education Foundation and Making Waves Academy programs and operations
Strategically leverage the CEO, Chief Development Officer, board members, and other senior leaders to steward and engage donors, including preparing these individuals for successful funder interactions
Compose tailored grant narratives, pitches, and employee engagement opportunities for high-stakes corporate and foundation donors, including reports, proposals, and donor correspondence
Collaborate with Making Waves Academy team to cultivate/steward current and prospective corporate and foundation funders
Maintain up-to-date donor records for relationships to ensure accuracy of account information, interaction history, and proposal/report submissions
Assess Bay Area corporate and foundation philanthropy landscape through research and prospecting databases, identifying and qualifying new and lapsed funders for outreach and cultivation efforts
Contribute to important cross-functional projects
Serve as a member of the Leadership Team
Participate in organization-wide systems, processes, and rituals (e.g., annual and quarterly goal setting, employee engagement surveys, All Hands); commit to providing feedback to improve our work in the future.

KEY EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
What you’ve accomplished (required):
5+ years of experience in nonprofit leadership or institutional fundraising with a proven record of achieving ambitious goals
Prior experience working in K-12 education, external partnerships, or strategy highly preferred
Knowledge of Salesforce CRM preferred but not required

ABOUT MAKING WAVES EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Making Waves Education Foundation is an education nonprofit that students historically underserved and underrepresented to pursue college and career pathways that set them up for a thriving career, financial independence, and a choice-filled life.
We support Making Waves Academy (MWA), a 5-12 grade public charter school in Richmond, CA. After high school graduation, each of our students (we call them “Wave-Makers”) is invited to join our college success and early career program, where they can receive a need-based scholarship, one-to-one college coaching, and financial literacy training. Each year, we support over 1,200 5th – 12th graders and over 500 college students on their journeys to and through college. In 2020, Making Waves Foundation launched a new strategic plan to serve more students and families. We will do this by taking the best of what we’ve learned at Making Waves Academy about college access and the best of what we’ve learned at Making Waves Foundation about college success and work to increase the college attendance and graduation rate for low-income students across Contra Costa County and beyond.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
Form strong partnerships with Co-CEOs, Chief Finance and Administration Officer (CFAO), Chief Impact Officer (CIO), Senior Director of Finance (SDF), and Regional Directors to develop multi-year organizational fundraising priorities, revenue targets and projections, effective engagement plans for high-level current and potential supporters and the media, and accurate and timely updates to the Board.
Work with the Donor Impact team and the Global Leadership Team (GLT) to execute the current growth plan aligned with the strategic plan tied with Destination 2030 and with the One For All Alliance; key emphasis will be on growing the number of new prospects/donors and strengthening the portfolio in the long-term into a greater number of key donors/funders.
Ensure performance, strategy, and alignment of the organization's revenue-generating activities and external relations including brand and communications.
Lead analysis of fundraising strategies and approaches to align with current market trends while staying flexible and innovative.
Work closely with the CFAO & SDF on the revenue budget process, including budget formation, evaluating risk, generating reports and creating revenue budget for two-year revenue plans.
Support on the identification of funding opportunities that match the organization’s strategy and priorities, including high wealth individuals, corporations, and/or private foundation and/or institutional funding, and as requested, support in the engagement of current donors across all funding levels to promote long-term funding relationships.
Lead the Donor Impact team in establishing a strong culture, a people-first mentality that focuses on staff retention and growth, and work with the members of the Donor Impact team on meeting their individual and team annual goals and targets.
Partner with Regional Directors in LATAM, Africa, and India, build capacity of regional teams to grow and attract potential in-country fundraising. Oversee the development and implementation of policies and systems that support growth.
Keep abreast of developments in marketing, communications, philanthropy and fund development, and share and inform GLT, Board, and Donor Impact
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors, and follow code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.
Serve as GLT representative on the Board Development Committee, bringing practical insight and best-practice strategy to the work of the Board in the realm of revenue generation; support and partner with the Board around elevating the organization on the driving focus areas of more dollars, more donors, more engagement, more awareness, and more intentionality.
Promote and inspire increased brand recognition for the organization while expanding global understanding of the water crisis.

The Chief Development Officer will lead the next chapter of our organization’s fundraising efforts and will partner with teammates, board members, students, alumni, and donors to dramatically increase the number of underrepresented students in our region who achieve college and career success. This position reports to the Chief Program Officer and works closely with other Foundation staff, as well as many other internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to faith communities, youth groups, community-based organizations and health care providers.

An individual with at least a bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree a plus.
Primary Responsibilities
Share team-lead responsibilities on policy or systems’ change campaigns with another Foundation Policy and Engagement colleague.
Develop and execute effective advocacy plans that identify, recruit, engage and mobilize county residents to support the Foundation’s advocacy agenda.
Advocate for the Foundation’s policy positions in meetings with lawmakers, coalition partners, community groups, and boards and commissions, etc.
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key leaders and organizations in the community.
Develop, maintain and continually expand a network of relationships in the county, particularly among residents of color and lower-income residents.
Work with the Foundation’s communication team to develop, circulate, and communicate the Foundation’s testimony, talking points, fact sheets, petitions, action alerts, etc. to coalition partners, community groups, and elected officials.
Help develop external organizations’ capacity to lead health policy and systems’ change work.
Organize individual and group meetings/listening sessions to further health dialog and action.
Coordinate programming and logistics for public events and other grassroots activities.
Identify, document, and encourage others to share stories relevant to Foundation work.
Represent the Foundation at local meetings, committees, task forces and events.
Help staff the Foundation’s Communication and Advocacy Committee.
Assist in outreach efforts and special projects that advance Foundation goals, as assigned by the President and CEO or Chief Program Officer.

Salary for the Senior Policy and Engagement Officer is commensurate with experience ($80,000-$100,000). Excellent benefits include 26 days of paid time off (increasing after three years); 11 paid holidays; generous medical insurance including dental and vision insurance and a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA); life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, short-term disability and long-term disability insurance; and generous 401(k) package.
