Position Overview: The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
The mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System (Refuge System) is to administer a national network of lands and waters for the conservation, management, and where appropriate, restoration of the fish, wildlife, and plant resources and their habitats within the United States for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans. More than 560 national wildlife refuges exist across the country, with at least one in every U.S. state and territory, and receive more than 50 million visitors annually. Understanding and characterizing visitors and their experiences on refuges is a critical element of managing Refuge System lands and waters.
The National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Survey effort is led by the Service's Human Dimensions Branch, and provides the Service with information regarding visitors' recreational, educational, and informational experiences, as well as visitors' levels of satisfaction with current services and facilities. This information will help the Service track and understand how some of the complex changes occurring within American society (e.g., demographic changes, preferences) are likely to affect the future of the Refuge System. Results from the survey may be used to help direct FWS resources for the betterment of the visiting public and protection of wildlife resources.
Primary duties for this position will include:
Participating in pre-sampling visitor recruitment training in Fort Collins, CO.
Continuous travel to national wildlife refuges across the country, spending ~2 weeks at each refuge.
Approaching visitors following survey protocols to collect a target number of visitor contact names and addresses per refuge.
Participating in check-in calls with the National Visitor Survey Coordinator to report progress and discuss obstacles for completing tasks.
Providing appropriate field documentation (e.g., photos, reports, blogs).
Remotely assisting the National Visitor Survey Coordinator with project-related tasks.
Assisting with other projects specific to the assigned refuges as time permits, for example:
Conducting visitor counts
Trails maintenance
Assisting with wildlife surveys
Water quality monitoring
Assisting with fuels management
Removing invasive species
Habitat Restoration
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
Schedule: Duties will primarily be carried out during daylight hours. Bi-weekly totals should not exceed 80 hours. A flexible work schedule will be required, which could involve work performed outside of normal work hours including on weekends and/or holidays. Time off may be granted and requests should be directed to ACE and the FWS for approval.
Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $500/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
AmeriCorps Education Award Program: This position may be eligible for an 450-hour AmeriCorps Education Award while serving under the EAP 2022/23 grant year program, valued up to $1,718.25 upon successful completion of a complete service term and 450 service hours].
Loan Forbearance: AmeriCorps members may also be eligible for federal loan forbearance. Additional enrollment steps are required.
Qualifying Child Care Coverage: AmeriCorps members may also be eligible for qualifying child care coverage. Additional enrollment steps are required.
Housing: Housing, and occasionally camping, will be provided for teams at no cost at refuges and during travel between sites. When residing in FWS provided-housing or on FWS lands, strict adherence to site specific policies and/or regulations is required.
Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.

Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
Ability and adaptability to spend significant and continuous time traveling without a home base
Flexibility to work independently in the context of a full time travel position without direct on site supervision
Ability to work closely with, spend significant time with, live with, and communicate effectively with another ACE member while traveling for the duration of the term
Ability to communicate orally in a courteous, professional manner to a variety of individuals (e.g., USFWS professionals, visitors, the public) from diverse backgrounds.
Proper wearing of ACE uniform components, including AmeriCorps logo.
A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
Willing to undergo and must pass the required three-part criminal history check.
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Hand and finger dexterity and physical coordination may involve fine and precise procedures, delicate adjustments or exact measurements.
Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
Environmental: Work environment conditions can change frequently; working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates.
Travel: This position will require domestic travel.
Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, rocky terrain, swamp or wetland conditions, biting insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.

The Restoration Crew identifies, surveys for, and controls invasive plants; installs native trees and shrubs; collects monitoring data; and maintains ecological restoration projects in partnership with public land management agencies throughout the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area. The Assistant Leader is responsible for supporting the Crew Leader in the oversight of Crew Members, leading the crew in the absence of the crew lead, and will lead several projects when the crew is split into smaller teams.
This is a full-time, 9-month seasonal position ( February 23 to November 27, 2023 ). The Restoration Crew periodically supports Greenway Trust volunteer and education events and will work regularly with Greenway Trust staff and occasionally with partner agency and nonprofit staff, sponsored AmeriCorps members, and volunteers.
This position is contingent upon funding from outside sources secured by the Greenway Trust.

REPORTS TO
The Restoration Crew Assistant Leader reports to the Restoration Projects Manager.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation is $22.00 per hour.
Benefits for full-time seasonal employees include a $250 gear stipend, paid sick time (accruing at one hour per 40 hours), worker’s compensation coverage, optional participation in an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA) ($200 monthly contributed by the Greenway Trust), participation in HealthiestYou program, and optional participation in a 403(b)-retirement plan. This position is not eligible for paid time off including holiday pay. There may be a possibility of unpaid days off due to extenuating circumstances.

To help seasonal crew members purchase or replace personal gear needed to be successful in the field, the Greenway Trust provides a $250 gear stipend. This allows individual seasonal staff members to prioritize what they want to purchase based on the gear they already have.
LOCATION AND SCHEDULE
The Restoration Crew is based out of the Greenway Trust Field Office at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah, WA and will work on surrounding public lands. The Restoration Crew works a 10-hour workday (7am to 530pm), on a Tuesday-Friday schedule, with occasional Saturday volunteer events.

Vaccination requirements are in place for Greenway Trust staff.

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINS TO SOUND GREENWAY TRUST
The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust works to steward a landscape that stretches 100 miles from the shores of Puget Sound, across the Cascade Mountains, to Central Washington. The Greenway Trust also coordinates the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area (NHA), which honors the historical and cultural significance of this place and helps to preserve and celebrate its living heritage. The Restoration Crew contributes to the goals of the NHA by implementing ecological restoration projects that focus on riparian restoration to improve habitat for threatened Chinook salmon, community restoration projects that focus on restoring open spaces in neighborhoods with less access to healthy green spaces, and supports agency efforts to minimize the impacts of noxious weeds on public and private lands.

The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust works to steward a landscape that stretches 100 miles from the shores of Puget Sound, across the Cascade Mountains, to Central Washington. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation is $21.00 per hour.
Benefits for full-time seasonal employees include a $250 gear stipend, paid sick time (accruing at one hour per 40 hours worked, worker’s compensation coverage, optional participation in an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA) ($200 monthly contributed by the Greenway Trust), participation in HealthiestYou program, and optional participation in a 403(b)-retirement plan. This position is not eligible for paid time off including holiday pay. There may be a possibility of unpaid days off due to extenuating circumstances.

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE
The Trail Crew is based from the Greenway Trust Field Office at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah, WA and will work on surrounding public lands. The Trail Crew works a 10-hour workday (7am to 5:30pm), a Tuesday-Friday schedule, with 4- and 8-day overnight work weeks in the summer.

Duties
The District Engineer is assigned to the Division of Support Services, Operations Engineering Staff within the Roseburg District. The incumbent provides program management, oversight and leadership, as well as technical advice to other Engineers, Civil Engineering Technicians, specialists and managers; ensures appropriate training, and oversees mentoring, including personally mentoring newer Engineers and Engineering Technicians in all phases of infrastructure design and contact administration with an emphasis on low volume roads and District timber sale program support; reviews and approves or designs structures and facilities prepared within the district including buildings, water and sewage systems, fish enhancement facilities, retaining walls, roads, dams, trails, major culverts, bridges, and wells; conducts technical studies and investigations and is relied upon as the authoritative source for technical information; must be able to communicate and work well with others throughout the organizations, as well as with outside agencies, and the public; must possess the ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence and memoranda dealing with highly technical information in a manner that can be read and understood by others without technical engineering backgrounds.

What makes this role unique?
In this role, you will support our dynamic AmeriCorps program through complex timekeeping audits and file administration for 300 AmeriCorps members annually. As the Secretary Lead, you will work independently and under the guidance of the Washington Conservation Corps’ Administrative Operations Manager to develop and enforce Section administrative procedures. You will facilitate weekly administrative support team meetings to ensure seamless support for the section, and will administer the member health insurance program.
What you will do:
Assign, instruct, and check the work of two Secretary Seniors. Review and correct bi-weekly audits of online employee timekeeping software (eTime), this will include quarterly hour reviews and roster verifications for section disaster response activities.
Provide customer service to WCC’s 350 members and staff as key member of WCC administrative support team.
Lead member criminal history and driving record checks, including payment to vendors and routing assistant supervisor onboarding material.
Process timely AmeriCorps member enrollment and exit paperwork, and serve as lead on member early exits and pro-rated awards.
Administer WCC member health insurance program and process WCC credit card logs and personal reimbursement vouchers.
Create and update spreadsheets to track and report on staff paperwork submission, error tracking, and member progress.
Develop forms, templates, and guidance for use by WCC field staff in partnership with Ecology’s fiscal office.

A High school diploma or equivalent AND Two years of increasingly responsible office experience requiring keyboarding or typing and experience directing the work of others.

Summary: American Conservation Experience, a non-profit youth and young adult conservation corps in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), is seeking an Environmental Education Member to contribute to urban outreach and environmental education efforts alongside U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Staff. During this term, the ACE member will develop environmental education programs and deliver these programs to students at the refuge and at urban schools near the Southeast Louisiana Refuges Complex.

Nine Southeast Louisiana Refuges are part of a rich ecological system which includes marshes, pine and bottomland hardwood forests, lakes, barrier islands, swamps and bayous. Ranging from the marshy delta at the mouth of the Mississippi, to the wetlands that help protect New Orleans from hurricanes and provide a nursery to the fisheries that support the region’s food economy, to the wild bayous of the Atchafalaya Basin; the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges preserve wildlife, habitat, and recreation opportunities representative of this unique part of the country.
All of the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges are open to public visits for nature-based recreational enjoyment. Priority public uses are hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education, and interpretation.

Age Requirements: Funding for many ACE positions is provided by a federal program designed specifically for the employment of youth and young adults and therefore is subject to minimum and maximum age requirements.
Work Schedule : Duties will primarily be carried out 8am to 4pm 5 days per week. Bi-weekly totals should not exceed 80 hours. A flexible work schedule may be required, which could involve work performed outside of normal work hours including on weekends. Time off for federal holidays is granted, and additional requests for time off should be directed to ACE and the FWS for approval.
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute approximately 40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $300 /week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: ACE members will be accommodated in Refuge housing at no cost for the duration of the internship. If applicants reside within a 50 miles of the Lacombe office housing will not be offered, but a mileage stipend can be negotiated.
AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 900-hour AmeriCorps Education Award ( $3,097.50 ) upon successful completion of service hours. Additional enrollment and volunteer service is required.
Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-competitive Hiring Authority: Members serving on this project may be eligible to receive a Department of the Interior (DOI) PLC non-competitive hiring authority certificate upon completion of their term of service. Eligible members must meet standard requirements of completing at least 640 hours (16 weeks at 40 hours/week) and utilize their certificate when applying for qualifying federal positions within 2 years of receipt and before the age of 31. Position Description:
This individual placement is meant to facilitate personal growth and professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with agency professionals. These experiential learning opportunities will be hands-on, engaging, culturally relevant and utilizes resources in the local community and environment. The position is responsible for supporting the implementation of curriculum through presenting programs, fostering partnerships, assisting in the planning of logistics, co-teaching and leading. The position will support the USFWS mission of habitat enhancement and maintenance for endangered species through the use of prescribed fire education, as an additional component.
Primary Duties include:
prepare and present on-and off-site environmental education programs for a variety of audiences
develop and present a variety of interpretive programs including orientations and guided hikes for a variety of public audiences or school groups
assist with the management of wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities such as hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education and interpretation
use verbal and written communication to effectively implement community engagement
develop or revise environmental education and interpretive materials (e.g. brochures, web content, exhibits and signs)
draft a variety of written materials including news releases, articles, correspondence and event flyers
assist in the operation of a visitor center.
Physical Requirements: This position may require physical exertion such as walking long distances over wet and rough surfaces while carrying up to 40 lbs.; bending, crouching, stooping, lifting or reaching. Hand and finger dexterity and physical coordination may involve fine and precise procedures, delicate adjustments or exact measurements.
Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, rocky terrain, swamp or wetland conditions, biting insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.
Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the FWS or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the FWS. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the FWS, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to FWS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.

Summary: American Conservation Experience, a non-profit youth and young adult conservation corps in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), is seeking an Environmental Education Member to contribute to urban outreach and environmental education efforts alongside U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Staff. Ranging from the marshy delta at the mouth of the Mississippi, to the wetlands that help protect New Orleans from hurricanes and provide a nursery to the fisheries that support the region’s food economy, to the wild bayous of the Atchafalaya Basin; the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges preserve wildlife, habitat, and recreation opportunities representative of this unique part of the country.
All of the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges are open to public visits for nature-based recreational enjoyment. Priority public uses are hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education, and interpretation.

Age Requirements: Funding for many ACE positions is provided by a federal program designed specifically for the employment of youth and young adults and therefore is subject to minimum and maximum age requirements.
Work Schedule : Duties will primarily be carried out 8am to 4pm 5 days per week. Bi-weekly totals should not exceed 80 hours. A flexible work schedule may be required, which could involve work performed outside of normal work hours including on weekends. Time off for federal holidays is granted, and additional requests for time off should be directed to ACE and the FWS for approval.
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute approximately 40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $300 /week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: ACE members will be accommodated in Refuge housing at no cost for the duration of the internship. If applicants reside within a 50 miles of the Lacombe office housing will not be offered, but a mileage stipend can be negotiated.

Position Description:
This individual placement is meant to facilitate personal growth and professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with agency professionals. These experiential learning opportunities will be hands-on, engaging, culturally relevant and utilizes resources in the local community and environment. The position is responsible for supporting the implementation of curriculum through presenting programs, fostering partnerships, assisting in the planning of logistics, co-teaching and leading. The position will support the USFWS mission of habitat enhancement and maintenance for endangered species through the use of prescribed fire education, as an additional component.

Oversee the social programs at selected properties.
Ensure the regular delivery of information through meetings, etc.
Lead programs when a teacher is absent.
Supervise employees and volunteers.
Facilitate resident meetings for different sites in English and Spanish.
Process timesheets on a timely manner for contract workers.
Create and translate documents for meetings and presentations.
Help with the CL toy drive.
Review lesson plans.
Work with vendors and partners.
Supervise AmeriCorps’ interns.
Oversee more than two programs/sites
Network with local agencies/institutions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or college credits in the areas of social work or family development.
Four years plus of community building/development experience.
Experience working closely with people of diverse backgrounds and populations at risk.
Certifications in early childhood education and/or early childhood development is a plus.
