This is a full-time, limited duration classified position and is represented by a union.
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Oregon State Public Health Laboratory (OSPHL) in Hillsboro, Oregon, is recruiting for a COVID-19 Virology Lab Technician (Medical Laboratory Technician 1) to provide analytical and specialized testing support for infectious diseases and agents of public health interests.
What will you do?
As a COVID-19 Virology Lab Technician, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Monitoring and reviewing specimens and paperwork for clerical errors.
- Entering patient demographics and requested tests into the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Labeling and handling both specimens and paperwork correctly so they travel to the next action point.
- Contacting submitters by phone and/or fax for request clarification, missing information and/or appropriate paperwork; and collecting appropriate documentation.
- Organizing, sorting, and preparing V/I specimens in the appropriate manner for testing.
- Delivering specimens to the correct testing area.
- Performing preanalytical specimen setup.
- Assisting other medical lab technicians with their duties and acting as backup.
- Preparing referral specimens correctly for sending out.
- Cleaning and sterilizing glassware and decontaminating and disposing waste at least once per week.
- Maintaining and calibrating equipment on schedule.
- Maintaining quality control (QC) records, such as daily and month temperature charts.
What are we looking for?
Requested Skills
- Minimum requirements: One year of "technical trainee" experience as a laboratory assistant in a clinical laboratory; OR completion of a certified clinical laboratory training program; OR a certificate or associate degree in an applied science from an accredited medical or clinical laboratory technician training program.
- Experience with all aspects of processing clinical specimens, such as organizing, sorting and preparing specimens for testing, labeling, handling and delivering specimens, and so forth.
- Experience supporting laboratory functions, examples are sterilizing and decontaminating equipment, maintaining and calibrating equipment on schedule.
- Experience conveying or correcting information in verbal and in written formats.
- Experience promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment
