The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Oregon State Public Health Laboratory (OSPHL) in Hillsboro, Oregon, is recruiting for a Specimen Receiving & Processing Technician to provide analytical specimen task support for infectious diseases and agents of public health interests. The Oregon State Public Health Laboratory (OSPHL) plays a critical role in Oregon’s response to COVID-19 by providing timely testing for populations at risk of infection and in response to outbreaks.

What will you do?
As the Specimen Receiving & Processing Technician, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Performing specimen receiving, data entry, racking, and kit assembly and distribution.
  • Receiving and processing test samples received.
  • Preparing and shipping test collection kits.
  • Preparing and shipping infectious and diagnostic samples.
  • Entering data, reviewing reports, processing mail, and proofing and correcting data.
  • Monitoring and reviewing specimens and paperwork for clerical errors.

What are we looking for?

Requested Skills

  • Minimum requirements: One year of "technical trainee" experience as a laboratory assistant in a clinical laboratory; OR completion of a certified clinical laboratory training program; OR a certificate or associate degree in an applied science from an accredited medical or clinical laboratory technician training program.
  • Experience supporting laboratory functions, examples are receiving and processing test samples, preparing and shipping test kits and infectious and diagnostic sample.
  • Experience entering, proofing and collecting data accurately.
  • Experience conveying or correcting information in verbal and in written formats.
  • Experience promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
