As the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer for the Public Works Department, you will be responsible for the county’s full featured ITS program.  The job includes managing a fully routed Ethernet fiber optic network, over 1,100 Ethernet devices, street lighting design, implementation of connected vehicle devices, design of enhanced pedestrian crossings, data stations, along with working on traffic signal operations. You will plan, organize and oversee the activities and operations of ITS engineering and operations. You will be a part of a progressive team of engineers and technicians who are working to improve the safety and mobility of the public road system in Clark County. 

Public Works has spent the last 12 years building a world class traffic signal and ITS system.  You will continue the trend, pushing the technology to improve safety and mobility for the residents of Clark County.  You will be a part of the Traffic Signals Engineering and Operations section, which includes one engineering manager, One traffic signal engineer, one ITS engineer, two senior traffic signal technicians and four journey level signal technicians along with a $3 million annual budget.  Clark County owns and operates approximately 100 traffic signals and maintains approximately 25 traffic signals for other neighboring agencies.  At this time, 28 county signals have fully adaptive operation.  In the next two years, an additional 24 existing county signals will be converted to adaptive operation.  The county’s ITS system includes a fully routed Ethernet communications network and over 1,100 IP addressable field devices and over 20 servers running ITS applications.

Qualifications
Engineer II:

Bachelor’s in Science degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Electrical Engineering and 2 years related work OR;

High School diploma or G.E.D. and four (4) years relative engineering work experience to include a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an Engineering I classification or equivalent and possession of an E.I.T. certification.

A valid driver’s license

Engineer III:

Bachelor’s in Science degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Electrical Engineering and 2 years related work and a Professional Engineer’s license in the State of Washington, or the ability to obtain the PE license in Washington within 6 months of hire.

A valid driver’s license.

Pay range for Engineer II: $31.05 to $39.63 per hour

Pay range for Engineer III: $35.91 to $45.92 per hour
