Job Description

THIS IS A CRITICAL POSITION. During the current health crisis, any job interviews will be held by video or audio conference. 

Phoenix Public Library serves a diverse clientele of over 4.8 million people, with a central library and 16 branches. The library offers collections in multiple languages, a full range of cutting edge electronic resources and customer focused public service. The Municipal Security Guard responsibilities include patrolling and observing the activities of persons in and around City facilities.  Work involves providing customer service, assessing problem situations and exercising tact and judgment in bringing about their resolution; monitoring live video screens and foot patrolling the building, grounds, and parking lots to observe unusual behavior and to prevent vandalism; preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas; remaining at a fixed post to observe activities; answering routine inquiries and directs customers to appropriate areas; completing log entries and incident reports; ensuring that all customers and staff have vacated building at closing and performing a security check of all doors and windows; enforcing correction of infractions through verbal warning, removing customers from building as needed, and detaining more serious offenders for proper authorities; and escorting personnel from building after hours.

The Library Department is currently hiring for branches across the City of Phoenix.

SALARY

$15.16 hourly.  Part-Time employees may work up to 28 hours depending on location and are not eligible for the full package of benefits. Employees will have the opportunity to receive a free bus/light rail pass and earned paid sick time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience as a security guard, police officer or military police officer.

  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings will be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Previous customer service experience.

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish strongly desired but not required.

  • Experience utilizing a computer in a Microsoft Windows environment.
