To provide immediate and temporary first aid services for victims of injury and sudden illness at events that are contracted between organizations and the American Red Cross. Due to the high degree of risk associated with the provision of this service, this position requires judgment and decision making abilities that help provide lifesaving response and balance the risks to the organization and employees/volunteers working in the program. This position ensures that FAST activities comply with all applicable State and local regulation and licenses and that necessary reports are submitted to regulatory authorities as needed.
Who You Are:
You’re a quick thinker who’s cool under pressure. Not only are you Red Cross certified in First Aid, CPR/AED (adult, children and infants) and Preventing Disease Transmission, you rely on good judgment and know the boundaries of your training. You've got at least 6 months experience as a First Aid or emergency responder.
Dexterity and strength are a given—you have no problem being up and down and on the go, or lifting light to medium weight (up to 20 pounds). Following procedures, filling out paperwork, and strong collaboration with your team come with the territory.
You’re courteous and care about others—which is why you got into this line of work in the first place.
What You’ll Do:
As part of our First Aid Services Team (FAST), you’ll be first on the scene to provide first aid services for victims of injury and sudden illness at various events in the Louisville, KY area. The position is a part-time, flexible, as-needed role, which means your hours will vary from week to week. Depending on the event or emergency situation, you could be working days, nights, weekends or on call.

1: Respond quickly and efficiently, providing emergency care only within the level of American Red Cross training.
2: Follow directions given by the FAST Station Leader and staff.
3: Work in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services personnel.
4: Complete FAST records and reports, including the Patient Treatment Form.
5: Provide FAST communications support by way of 800 MHz radio.
6: Work with a volunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth within the function.
Scope: Learning aspects of the job. Assignments are received in task- oriented terms. Contacts primarily within immediate work unit.

Skills & Abilities: Hold current certifications in American Red Cross First Aid (3-year recertification), American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED with Child and Infant CPR (annual recertification), and Preventing Disease Transmission (annual recertification). Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly. Flexible and able to communicate clearly. Must provide own reliable transportation. Maintain confidentiality. Work with integrity and ethics. Ability to work on a team.
Travel: Travel may be required.

The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Exposure Level 2. Normal work involves occasional exposure to blood or blood components and/or human body fluids or tissue samples as a result of splashes, spills, and/or needle sticks or performance of or assistance in first aid.
