Reports to: Vice President, State Racial Justice and Equity
Positions Reporting to this Position: None
Location: Flexible
Union Position: Yes
Job Classification Level : F
Salary Range (depending on experience) : $88,000 - $132,000
General Description :
LCV believes our earth is worth fighting for because everyone has a right to clean air, water, and a safe, healthy community. To ensure those rights are protected, we help people use their power to shape policy, hold politicians and polluters accountable, and influence elections.
Our over 2 million members, our volunteers and staff, and our more than 30 state affiliates (together, the Conservation Voter Movement) work for a more just and equitable democracy, where people—not polluters—determine our future. This movement is an influential national network with unparalleled influence in Washington, DC, in state capitals, and in communities around the country. We are unmatched in our ability to ensure meaningful action on our key issues. We aim to bring people and communities together across racial, geographic, political, religious, economic and other differences toward collective goals instead of dividing us from one another.
The 30+ Conservation Voter Movement (CVM) state affiliates have committed to building a more racially and economically just and equitable national network. The CVM has embraced a set of racial and economic justice principles to which we intend to hold ourselves and each other accountable. Though we begin with different geographies, cultures, and norms, we agree that we must improve racial equity in our movement, our organizations, and our work as we strive to build a just and sustainable future.
The Director of State Partnerships will lead the creation and implementation of our movement building strategy to expand and deepen authentic, long-term partnerships between the CVM and communities of color, low-income communities, working families, rural towns, and other communities most impacted by climate change and environmental harm to shape community-driven equitable and just policy solutions and action. We seek to develop enduring partnerships centered in a shared vision, goals, and commitment to action grounded in shared power and resources, mutual respect, authenticity, and collaborative decision making. The Director of State Partnerships will work closely with and provide counsel to the executive leaders and staff of the CVM, as well as the Vice President, State Racial Justice and Equity, and other LCV staff working with states. The ideal candidate is an experienced and effective leader, who has built multi-racial coalitions and/or partnerships grounded in principles of racial equity and social justice; a creative thinker; and an effective collaborator and coach.
Responsibilities :
Work with CVM leaders to craft an ambitious multi-year vision and strategy for strengthening movement building efforts, with a focus on building reciprocal and authentic partnerships with organizations led by and working in low income communities, communities of color, and other communities most impacted by climate change and environmental harm. Ensure resource sharing and capacity building are integrated into the strategy.
Support individual state affiliates to build new partnerships and expand who they engage with in order to: strengthen the political power of the climate and conservation movements; pass stronger policies that are relevant to, and improve the lives of people most impacted by climate change; and elevate and center the perspectives and influence of these communities.
Manage state capacity building programs, working cross-departmentally with LCV program leads, to share funding, capacity building, and other resources with state partner organizations and coalitions.
Plan and implement a new training program to build CVM skills in movement building, coalition building and developing partnerships, in coordination with LCV program leads and State Capacity Building staff, as needed.
Identify, engage, invest in, and listen to community leaders as we work towards a more representative and inclusive Conservation Voter Movement.
Encourage our state affiliates to uphold, advance, and evolve shared racial and economic justice principles and help develop tools for learning and self-assessment.
Develop strategies and tactics for state affiliates to eliminate barriers caused by institutional racism in political and policy making structures, and work collaboratively to ensure full participation by communities of color, low-income communities, working families, and other impacted communities.

Support the SVP to develop and manage the organization's budget for this scope of work.
