America Votes works with over 400 state and national partner organizations to advance progressive policies, win elections and protect every American’s right to vote. 

Since 2003, America Votes has been the common link between many of the largest and most influential issue and membership organizations in the country, serving as the coordination hub of the progressive community. America Votes’ work has brought together a wide range of causes and built a unified coalition that has transformed how the progressive community works. Together, they have engaged communities across the country to take action on critical issues – from fighting for working families, to advancing women’s healthcare, to protecting the environment, and more – and mobilized millions of voters to turn out on Election Day. 

America Votes works year-round nationally and in more than 20 key states, acting as a permanent campaign to continually advance progressive causes, modernize elections and win elections. America Votes provides a range of services to partners, including strategic planning, advocacy and electoral campaign coordination, data tools and targeting services, and on-the-ground leadership in key states. 

America Votes also works to improve election systems and fight back against efforts to suppress voters, taking the lead throughout their state network to coordinate and execute advocacy campaigns with allies to reform elections and modernize the voting process. 

America Votes is committed to developing long-term roadmaps and setting critical goals for states in 2021. With an eye on redistricting and the consequences of extreme conservative gerrymanders, these efforts are essential to building progressive power in the states, session-by-session and election-by-election. 

America Votes and their partner organizations are at the heart of the progressive movement’s effort to advance policies and win elections. In 2020, the America Votes coalition deployed their largest-ever voter engagement and mobilization effort to millions of voters. In 2021-2022, the coalition will be on the ground educating and mobilizing voters.

Position Description

The National Data Support Director is a new role designed to ensure America Votes’ internal and external stakeholders have the data resources and tools they need in 2021, 2022, and beyond. The Director will work closely with data teams across the 21-state America Votes’ network and with national partner groups. 

The Director will manage a team in charge of training, administering tools, onboarding, and sharing best practices with the America Votes’ state data teams and partner organizations. This position is ideal for someone with a data background who loves working with people, has a passion for helping others do their best work, and who enjoys the balance between problem solving and creating new systems and processes that benefit stakeholders.

This is a management position that reports to the National Data & Targeting Director and is not union eligible.

Location

The location for this position is flexible. Some travel and reasonable access to an airport is required. America Votes has offices located in DC and CO, FL, GA, MI, MN, NC, NH, NM, NV, OH, PA, and WI. America Votes is currently working remotely; however if you are based in a state with an America Votes office, a hybrid approach may be possible at this time, depending on local guidance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure America Votes’ internal and external stakeholders have the data resources and tools needed for program success.
• Convene partners and staff around sharing best practices and new innovations in data and tools.
• Manage, mentor and support a staff of three, which includes the National Data Specialist and Regional Support Specialists.
• Design and implement trainings for America Votes’ staff and external partners, ensuring the curriculum is developed with an eye toward equity.
• Administer available voter contact tools to partners.
• Assess partner training and resource needs and ensure partner organizations receive training and technical assistance.
• Create uniform onboarding processes for data systems for America Votes staff.
• Ensure partner support requests receive timely and helpful responses.
• Facilitate professional development and growth opportunities for state data staff.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, state data staff, and vendors.
• Create documents, templates, trackers, dashboards, and other materials to ensure best practices are followed. 
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

Required

• At least two cycles of experience in a mid-to-senior data role.
• Strong staff and project management skills including managing multiple staff, project timeline management and reporting.
• Passion for training the next generation of data talent.
• Experience executing training programs through an equity lens.
• Interest in emerging technologies and trends, especially in the voter contact space.
• Creative and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to adapt as tools, products, and programs evolve.
• Strong interpersonal skills, maturity, tactfulness, and excellent judgment.
• Organized, reliable and highly attentive to detail.
• Self-starter and willing to work long irregular ‘campaign-style’ hours and travel as needed.
• Commitment to progressive values.
• Spirit of service and a sense of humor.

Preferred

• Three or more cycles in campaign work.
• Familiarity with evidence-driven approaches to voter contact.
• Experience in an organization with a robust state network, such as a national partner or a presidential campaign.
• Experience as a state data director, including building universes and reporting.
• Experience working with or administering a database, especially VAN.
• Strong network within the progressive data analytics space.

Compensation

The salary for this position will be between $80,100-$85,000 and depend upon the applicant’s experience. Benefits for this position include health, dental, and vision insurance as well as a 401(K) and paid vacation, sick days, and parental leave.
