Position Title : Development Director
Location: Washington, DC
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
We are seeking an energetic and highly organized Development Director to implement our development plan. This is a key role in helping to grow the organization. The successful candidate will be analytical and creative, collaborate well with a passionate and fun staff, and coordinate and manage multiple projects. The Development Director will play a key role in the leadership of the organization as part of the organization’s Executive Team.

Essential Functions: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Development Director (DD) will provide strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, evaluation, integration, and administration development department. The DD will lead a team of development professionals in achieving the organization’s revenue goals, increasing income, and educating and engaging more individuals and institutions in the to advance the organization’s mission. The DD will be part of a skilled team of professionals working to raise at least $5 million annually. The DD manages a multi-faceted fundraising program; central to this role will be prioritizing personal solicitation of major donors, events, online and direct marketing, and foundation fundraising.
Duties:
Work closely with the Development Team to establish fundraising goals, set strategic priorities, advise on program development, and develop and meet annual budget
Manage and build a growing team of development professionals, provide on-going guidance, direction, and motivation, hire team members and provide oversight to consultants as needed, delegate appropriately and ensure strong internal communication and coordination, and evaluate performance and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth
Work closely with the Boards of Directors to engage them more deeply in the fundraising process and to help cultivate a strong relationship between board members and the organization
Help track cultivation and prospecting activity and ensure the execution of action items
Solicit contributions from major individual donors and steward long-term relationships with donors
Develop relationships with prospective individual and foundation donors to increase funding
Research prospective institutional and individual funders
Work with internal partners to draft and edit proposals and reports
Track proposal and reporting deadlines, ensure that all submitted materials are accurate and comply with any funder requirements
Manage all grant activity in a central database and deliver regular reports to the Executive Director
Serve as the point person for management and maintenance of funders database and ensure efficient system utilization across all units
Oversee the implementation of ongoing programs to improve the renewal rates of existing annual donors, creatively use events to upgrade donors and maintain a diversity of revenue
Work with the VP of Operations to develop annual budgets and income projections
Stay abreast of political and philanthropic trends and ensure that Board and staff are informed of changes in legislation and other trends and initiatives that might impact giving
Competencies:
Experience in fundraising and achieving corporate s;ponsorships
Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree plus 7+ years fundraising experience
Proven success in securing foundation and individual donor support
Experience managing a team, including experience in creating and managing successful major gifts programs
A clear understanding of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit legal issues/structures.
Well-developed writing, interpersonal and organizational skills and experience managing staff
Commitment to organization’s mission and understanding of current policy issues and political landscape
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with, and quickly gain the respect and support of, various constituencies, including a visible chief executive committed to raising money, established development management team, active board members, other senior leadership, program directors and donors.
Experience as an effective communicator who is articulate and persuasive in both the spoken and written word; must be adept at crafting materials and making presentations to a variety of audiences
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: This job operates in a typical office setting. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a permanent full-time position. This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.
Travel Requirements: This position has frequent travel throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000/year
Commensurate according to years of experience. All employees must meet a 6-month probationary period. Continuation of this position after one year is dependent on the successful candidate meeting jointly determined performance goals.

On-Call Lead Floor Technician Position
The Lead Floor Technician is responsible for performing special project work that includes floor care as well as some other detailed cleaning jobs. The primary goal of this position is to provide leadership for the department along with ensuring that each job is completed to the level of expectation of Golden Standard Enterprises. Essential Functions ● Expected duties carpet cleaning, stripping & waxing, buffing floors, grout cleaning, burnishing of floors, etc. ● Orientate and train new employees in the safe and proper operaƟon of equipment and floor care processes as necessary. ● Assist with job training for staff, including safety lessons from KMD training materials. ● Supervise fellow employees. ● Distribute work assignments to employees as directed. ● Physically perform all related dutes of floor care in accordance with company policies and/or manufacturer’s recommended maintenance requirements. ● Perform preventaƟve maintenance and minor repair of equipment as necessary. ● Maintain cleanliness of equipment and ensure it funcƟons properly. ● Promptly report worn and broken equipment to supervisor. ● Responsible for keys, combinations, and equipment and/or asset control. ● Responsible for securing building when work is complete. ● Assist with establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with customers. ● Respond to customer complaints.
Job Qualifications ● Must be able to pass a background check. The Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) seeks a part-time, seasonal (20 hours/week from May to November 2024) Recreation and Restoration Programs Assistant to provide on-the-water, field, and facility support for our organization. This non-exempt position will participate in the organization’s recreation and restoration work by leading and/or assisting with educational boat tours, volunteer restoration events, and field studies; providing logistical and hands-on support; and helping store, maintain, and ensure the safe use of materials and equipment. Specific tasks may include: providing meaningful watershed education and recreational experiences and interpretation to youth and adults of all ages; wetland plantings, mussel monitoring, tree plantings, watering, and maintenance; landscaping, mowing, and other tasks as assigned. Key Accountabilities
Prepare for, equip, assist, and/or lead safe recreational events (i.e. canoe and pontoon boat trips), highlighting the Anacostia Watershed Society’s work and interpreting wildlife and history along the river.
Prepare for, equip, support, and/or attend volunteer restoration events (i.e. plantings, trash cleanups, mussel monitoring, tree maintenance and watering, and field assessment).
Assist with the coordination, implementation, and safe use of equipment and tools, and nursery and landscaping tasks in support of initiatives.

Key Requirements

This non-exempt position will participate in the organization’s recreation and restoration work by leading and/or assisting with educational boat tours, volunteer restoration events, and field studies; providing logistical and hands-on support; and helping store, maintain, and ensure the safe use of materials and equipment. Specific tasks may include: providing meaningful watershed education and recreational experiences and interpretation to youth and adults of all ages; wetland plantings, mussel monitoring, tree plantings, watering, and maintenance; landscaping, mowing, and other tasks as assigned. This position works with and reports directly to the Manager of Volunteer and Recreation Programs, and works collaboratively across the organization.

Key Accountabilities
Prepare for, equip, assist, and/or lead safe recreational events (i.e. canoe and pontoon boat trips), highlighting the Anacostia Watershed Society’s work and interpreting wildlife and history along the river.
Prepare for, equip, support, and/or attend volunteer restoration events (i.e. plantings, trash cleanups, mussel monitoring, tree maintenance and watering, and field assessment).
Assist with the coordination, implementation, and safe use of equipment and tools, and nursery and landscaping tasks in support of initiatives.
Participate in other special projects, organization-wide efforts, and tasks as assigned.
Key Requirements
Demonstrated career Interest and/or experience in community engagement, enthusiastic for and comfortable in the outdoors, and demonstrated knowledge, commitment, and passion for environmental sustainability.
Skilled boat operator desired. Boating and paddling experience strongly preferred and a plus. Comfort on the water and in the field required.
Strong verbal communication skills, including persuasive and effective communication that forwards the purpose and mission of the organization; familiarity with use of computers and the internet.
Ability to work with and provide excellent customer service to people of all ages, especially experience working in a metropolitan area.

Required Qualifications and Experiences
Demonstrated passion for environmental justice coupled with a commitment to clean waterways being a human right, with relevant experience in community environmental learning, land management, or recreation.
Additional experience and/or education in boat/vehicle maintenance and operations, natural resource management, environmental science, parks and recreation, or other environmental/conservation field is a plus, but not a requirement.
Experience in project logistical support and working with staff and engaging community volunteers is deeply valuable.
Experience engaging children/youth and/or adults with experiential learning, and/or community outreach and engagement is a plus.
Medium to heavy lifting (such as canoes, kayaks, landscaping material, Shad and Mussel hatcheries, etc.).

Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serves as the first point of contact for instructors, staff, students, families, callers, visitors, and/or customers via in person, telephone, or by email.
Maintains effective and efficient flow of communication and information through calendars, correspondence, memos, telephone messages, and office records.
Assists and directs students with class registration and payment.
Receives transcript and certificate requests, locates information, and sends to student, employer, or college.
Makes business travel arrangements for staff as needed.
Prepares classrooms for instructors, including setup and troubleshooting of equipment, preparation of supplies, and sanitization.
Creates certificates for public and contract training classes as needed.
Responsible for ordering and tracking equipment, office supplies, and maintaining check-in and check-out documentation as needed.
Works closely with Business Office on daily bank balancing.
Ensures operation of office equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; arranging for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Works closely with other areas of college that can include other campuses, departments, and the foundation office.
Creates and maintains paper and electronic databases and records.
Coordinates materials and refreshments for activities and meetings include arranging room setup.
Partners with third-party vendors and/or sponsors to assist students with registration, gathering payment information, and disseminating credential information.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Works closely with confidential information by following college policies on cybersecurity.
Creates, maintains, and manages comprehensive records, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
Assists with day-to-day administration of the assigned programs.
Participates in campus committees as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree and four (4) years of experience as an Administrative Assistant or related field or a combination of education and experience to total six (6) years.
Knowledge of financial rules, regulations, and procedures.
Experience with making travel arrangements for senior staff or leadership.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and via written correspondence.
Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology.
Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication.
Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to demonstrate effective organizational skills to manage multiple and shifting tasks/demands to meet timely deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Experience working in a community college setting
Working Conditions
Anticipated schedule is Monday – Friday from 8am – 4:30 pm with potential for occasional weekend or evening hours.
Work is performed either in or a combination of an office setting and/or classroom setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
Employment Status
Full-time non-exempt position with comprehensive or competitive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave; tuition reimbursement; and a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).
Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience.
The salary range for this position begins at $37,500.
