Sr. Cloud Architect

Come join the High Performance Computing team at HPE to deliver on a system management strategy for HPC based on cloud-native technologies and practices.  HPE is looking for a Senior Cloud Architect to provide guidance and technical supervision across multiple agile teams, collaborating to deliver the system management software for the next generation of supercomputers.  

As one of the most senior individual contributors in R&D, you’ll lead through influence. The structures are in place to empower a team of subject matter experts.  You can rely on their depth while focusing on your breadth.  The governance model for decisions is based on open-source Special Interest Groups.  Together, you’ll work to iterate policy and process in a way that helps individual developers connect their work to the greater mission.

This position could be based anywhere in the US

Primary Responsibilities

• Ensure high architectural standards across the system management suite of microservices.  You’ll be responsible for guidance and feedback, working with the product team and our HPC customers. 

• Set strategy for Cloud systems applications and respond to customer feedback.  

• Build highly available software systems with the ability to perform continuous operation upgrades and rollbacks. 

• Lead as a hands-on architect, actively writing production-level code when needed. 

• Leverage your deep software experience in System Management areas including container orchestration, authentication & authorization, micro-services architectures, distributed object storage software, image repositories, and configuration management. 

Experience and Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, Istio, Open Policy Agent (Rego Policy Management) and micro-services in a production environment. 

• Proven track record planning and delivering large-scale software projects, from large user-facing use-cases down through product planning and execution backlogs and onto sprint backlogs. 

• Deep knowledge of Cloud development patterns, DevOps, Infrastructure-As-Code, Observability, and REST APIs. 

• Experience with deploying and managing services in AWS, Azure, GCP, or OpenStack. 

• Solid background defining robust REST APIs and providing implementations using a micro-services architecture model and serverless design patterns. 

• Strong security expertise as it relates to authentication, authorization, audit, and multi-tenancy.  SPIFFE/SPIRE knowledge a plus
