Job Description

Eastern Florida State College is currently seeking applications for the full-time position of HVAC Specialist II on the Cocoa Campus in Cocoa, Florida.

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, ventilation systems and associated systems and equipment throughout the college campuses. Under minimum supervision, the HVAC Specialist II is expected to exercise considerable amount of independent judgment. Will be required to assume weekend and after hours standby for mechanical and air conditioning emergencies.


The following minimum qualifications for this position must be met before any applicant will be considered:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1-5 years of experience operating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment including experience operating, maintaining and repairing ventilation, air conditioning and heating equipment used by the college.
  • EPA 608 certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints. Ability and knowledge to read and interpret schematics. Ability to read and apply operating/repair instructions.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with contractors, architects and engineers.
  • Must have knowledge and use of computer software related to college supported systems, accessing and loading data.
  • Must be familiar with energy saving controls and systems. Must have knowledge of the operating principles of heating, air conditioning, & refrigeration.
  • Valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required.
  • This position will require successful fingerprinting and the candidate chosen will be required to pay the associated fee (currently $37.25). This fingerprinting fee ($37.25) is non-refundable.

Minimum physical qualifications:

  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move 40 + pounds.
  • Must have good hand eye coordination.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop and bend for long periods of time.
  • Must have knowledge and experience of the use of HVAC hand tools and equipment.
  • Works within confined spaces.
  • Works outside in various weather conditions.
  • Works in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Works in noisy conditions.
  • Works with hazardous chemicals.

The annual salary is $32,500. Successful internal candidates for external job postings should be aware that their current salary does not transfer to the new position. Salary will be as advertised in the job announcement. Full-time employees of Eastern Florida State College receive fringe benefits including health insurance and a retirement plan.
