Senior Backend Engineer

The Gig

• Contribute clean, clear, and high quality production code
• Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of our current code and systems 
• Collaborate with the other engineers and stakeholders to establish objectives and design more functional, cohesive software to enhance the user experience and ensure it’s as seamless as possible 
• Play a pivotal role in updating and adding new features to our APIs and internal tools for customer service, inventory, and fulfillment
• Provide value directly to UrbanStems’ customers as quickly, reliably, and accurately as possible
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers through code reviews, peer debugging sessions, and by contributing to guidelines and best practices for how we work

About You

• You adapt to new technology quickly and are always looking for opportunities to hone your skills
• Desire to write clean, scalable, testable, and reliable software in a fast-paced work environment
• Fluent in Node.js and javascript (experience with Python, Java or C# a plus)
• Fluent in both SQL (i.e. MySQL and PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (such as MongoDB, DynamoDB or Redis) database technologies
• Experienced in building distributed systems for scale and deploying them in the cloud
• Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, SNS, SQS, S3, and Kinesis or equivalents is a plus
• Strong ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
• Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to shift gears quickly and effectively
• We’re a small, lean team; a desire to take ownership of tasks and projects is a must
