Job Description

ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

What you will do…

  • Independently or as part of a team, conducts routine and/or non-routine audits (e.g., gathers information; performs review and analysis of records, operations, activities, controls and systems or applies accepted auditing standards and principles);   
  • Acts as audit team lead (e.g., park audits, grantee audits, concessionaire audits, contracted audits, lessee audits) in absence of higher-level external auditor when assigned;
  • Conducts management review of agency activities (e.g., revenue, inventory, expenditures, payroll, state and federal grants, petty cash, payment cards, evidence, citations);  
  • Assists in preparing and/or prepares necessary work papers, related audit and pre-audit materials, preliminary audit reports and final audit report or draft audit report to summarize activities, findings & recommendations to improve or resolve deficiencies or non-compliance; 
  • Provides technical assistance to agencies and providers (e.g., offers advice of how to improve internal controls and implementing corrective actions) and acts as quality assurance technician;
  • Conducts entrance and exit conferences with representatives to discuss scope of audit and exit interviews to review findings and recommendations; conducts program audits when necessary; answers telephone or written inquiries concerning audits.   

 

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires frequent travel with possible overnight stays; positions which involve travel to audit sites in field also
require valid Ohio driver’s license in order to operate state-owned vehicle or must be able to provide own
transportation.
