What you will do:

As a seasonal Park Ranger 1 at this location, you will perform the following:

 

Landscape Maintenance

  • Plant vegetation, mow lawns, and maintain irrigation systems
  • Prune trees and shrubs using manual and power tools, as well as apply fertilizers and pesticides

 

Custodial Maintenance

  • Clean rest rooms, showers, bathhouses, observation buildings, and maintenance shops
  • Collect, separate, and properly dispose of garbage and recyclable materials

 

General Park Operations

  • Give direction and oversee the work of seasonal employees, volunteers, and inmates
  • Maintain and ensure clean work sites, maintenance shops, yards, and storage areas

 

Building, Facility, and Utility Maintenance and Construction

  • Maintain and repair building fixtures including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
  • Construct and maintain trails, footbridges, pathways, signs, and other fixtures.
  • Maintain water distribution and treatment, including wastewater

 

Visitor Services & Park Safety

  • Process campsite reservations on the computer and accept payments
  • Provide information to visitors about the park attractions as well as park rules and regulations
  • Patrol park areas to protect and preserve resources and render emergency aide to visitors

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

(a) Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

OR
(b) An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

What we are looking for (Desired Attributes):

  • Ability to listen to what people say and asking appropriate questions to obtain needed information.
  • Experience processing computerized camp registrations in a park setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience enforcing park rules and effectively communicating park rules and regulations.
  • Experience safely using tools, material and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility and utility system maintenance.
  • Experience performing basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds-keeping tasks.
  • Experience in promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
