Job Description:

The American Red Cross is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst.

***The position is Work from Home and can be located anywhere in the United States. For those candidates located in Colorado and Connecticut, the salary range for this position is: $79,000 to $84,000. Note that the American Red Cross sets salary ranges aligned to a specific geographic location in which the job or employee resides. The Role:

The Business Intelligence Analyst's primary goal is to provide actionable intelligence that drives key business decisions impacting our operations, and supports marketing initiatives related to all lines of business. The Business Intelligence (“BI”) Analyst is a critical role in the provision of data analytics and visualization solutions supporting an array of business units across The Red Cross, including Hospital Sales, Collections, and Consumer Fundraising.

The Job:

The BI Analyst will work directly with staff and volunteers within our business units as well as IT teams to create and enhance interactive dashboards & reports as well as conduct analyses that produce relevant insights about strategic and operations initiatives. This role interacts directly with vendors and with staff across several lines of business to aid integrated strategic planning as well as business application and data warehouse enhancements.

The Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with stakeholders and subject matter experts to create new and enhance existing business intelligence assets.

  • Contributes clarity of business needs and evaluates feasibility of technical solutions by delivering functioning BI prototypes by leveraging data sourced from business applications, enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence platforms.

  • Develops and delivers end user dashboards with effective visualizations that quickly convey actionable information tailored to stakeholder needs.

  • Conducts deeper analyses to identify areas for improving decision support and operational effectiveness, and evaluates data to deliver research findings & recommendations for increasing revenue, reducing costs and enhancing satisfaction of customers.

  • Maintains existing BI assets as business needs and/or technical infrastructure evolve, often in coordination with IT staff who support data integration and enterprise data warehouse assets.


  • Serves as a key data resource for insights & visualizations related to hospital sales and product management, fulfilling ad hoc information requests.

  • Assists with data integration efforts related to the modernization and automation of run-and-maintain reporting, with the goal of increasing self-service utilization, decreasing data latency / time to market, and maximizing data-driven insights.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Provides analytic support to program managers and vendors as requested to identify opportunities to improve available source system data for reporting & analyses.

  • Provides support for research to identify market trends and conduct competitive analysis.

  • Collaborates with IT staff on the enhancement of analytics platforms and data assets, including design, development and testing activities.

  • Support Power BI solutions, including advocacy & end user adoption as well as conversion of legacy reports to current BI standards.

  • Collaborate with data science colleagues, leveraging knowledge of performance measures to help evaluate opportunities to incorporate machine learning into analytics and data visualization products.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience / certification) in Data Analytics, Marketing, Finance, Business or a relevant field.

  • Strong database and analytic skills, with an emphasis on Teradata, MS SQL, dimensional modelling and data warehouse concepts.

  • Understanding of data visualization and dashboard design concepts & best practices. Preferred candidates will be familiar with Microsoft Power BI and MS Excel.

  • Aptitude for & familiarity with basic statistical analysis (frequency distribution, variance analysis).

  • Familiarity with marketing processes: project management, market segmentation, targeting, and pricing.

  • Exposure to any of the following is a plus: process improvement, user experience, customer journey methods.

  • Knowledge of SAP Business Objects desirable but not required.

  • Familiarity with additional programming languages (Python, R) is desirable.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic).  The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
