POSITION SUMMARY
Berkeley Repertory Theatre (Berkeley Rep), established in 1968, is one of the nation’s prominent theatrical institutions with a long, proud history of developing Broadway-bound productions such as Green Day’s American Idiot and Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations along with high caliber artists and comedians like Mike Birbiglia, John Leguizamo, and social commentator Fran Lebowitz.
Berkeley Rep is looking for an engaging individual with exceptional interpersonal and communications skills to identify, cultivate, and actively solicit donors to support the Theatre’s annual fundraising and campaign goals. Under the supervision of the Director of Development, the Philanthropy Officer will join a growing development team who work closely to identify and move existing and prospective donors into deeper levels of engagement with the Theatre. The successful candidate will be a results-oriented individual who deeply values the transformative power of the arts and can serve as a passionate advocate for Berkeley Rep.
The Theatre’s current operating budget is $20M, of which 65% is derived from contributed revenue.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Philanthropy Officer is tasked with garnering comprehensive support from individuals toward the Theatre’s Annual Fund, as well as specific initiatives and campaigns. Employing “moves management” strategies, the Officer is responsible for a portfolio of 100+ current donors and prospects with the ability to make gifts of $7,500 or more to the Annual Fund and multi-year leadership gifts to special projects. Through active identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, the Officer will grow the Theatre’s major gifts program by building authentic and lasting relationships with its patron base.
