Job Summary                                                                                                                            

Clark County Public Works is seeking 1 Engineering Technician to perform a variety of duties in the Preservation Management section of the Transportation Division.

 

Applicants should have an interest in transportation, to work with Clark County’s inventory data base and perform traffic engineering and operations work. Primary responsibilities include gathering field data for updating and maintaining inventory data base for the Traffic Engineering/Operations section, working closely with Clark County GIS, Clark County staff, outside agencies and other tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

An AS in Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience) and 2-3 years experience in a position equivalent to Assistant Engineering Technician i.e. construction inspection, civil engineering role.  A Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related field may be substituted for the required experience.

 

For the Traffic Engineering/Operations position, the ideal candidate will have experience with:

  • Data Base operations and maintenance;
  • GIS
  • Reviewing and Evaluating accident reports
  • Working with the public
  • Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel.
  • Performing detailed calculations

 

Examples of Duties

Preservation Management performs asset management functions for pavements, culverts, miscellaneous structures, and unstable slopes.  Typical tasks for this group include:

  • Performing inspections of pavements, culverts, miscellaneous structures, unstable slopes, and other assets.
  • Recording inspection data electronically.
  • Performing non-destructive structural testing of pavement using Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) equipment.
  • Operating Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to determine pavement layer thicknesses.
  • Identifying and painting out areas of pavement needing repair.
  • Measuring repair areas and calculating total quantities for bid item estimates.
  • Identifying and developing preservation treatment projects and bid documents.
  • Monitoring performance of past preservation treatment projects.
  • Working with the GIS Department to produce maps of upcoming project work.
  • Communicating with the public concerning road conditions and upcoming work.
  • Using personal computers and software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and job-related software including Mobility, ArcGIS, and PAVER.
