The USTA Texas (“Organization”) offices are located in Austin, TX and is a not-for-profit volunteer organization devoted to promoting and developing the growth of tennis in Texas. Since 1895, USTA Texas has been a section of the United States Tennis Association, the governing body of tennis in America. USTA Texas is the third largest of the sections and features a number of tennis programs for juniors, adults and seniors at the beginning, recreational, and competitive levels. Austin is located in the beautiful “Hill Country” of Texas, and is the fastest growing of the 50 largest US cities and the second largest state capital city in the United States. Job Description The Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Department Assistant is a part-time position that supports the growth of diversity in tennis participation in Texas. The assistant will work on key projects to enable this mission, while simultaneously gaining skills and knowledge in the growing diversity and inclusion field. The assistant will work under the supervision of the Director of Diversity & Inclusion and will also collaborate with other departments, stakeholders, and D&I committee members. USTA Texas Home Page: http://www.usta.com/texas Job Duties • Grant & Scholarship Support o USTA Texas offers grants and scholarships to grow participation in diverse communities. The assistant will become knowledgeable about the grant and scholarship process and will communicate upcoming grant opportunities to potential applicants, answer individual case specific questions, and support the collection and ranking of grant and scholarship applications for various USTA Texas staff committee members. • Event Support o USTA Texas leads or participates in several events across Texas that reach a diverse audience. The assistant will assist with various elements of these events, including finding prospective events, creating event schedules/agendas, and event follow-up. • Research o With Texas demographics constantly changing, significant research of demographic trends is essential for assessing opportunities to engage diverse audiences through tennis. The assistant will assist the D&I Coordinator in research that supports the business case for diversity in tennis. • Marketing and Communication o Crafting inclusive messages is essential to connecting with diverse populations throughout Texas. The assistant will work closely with the Marketing team to identify opportunities to feature, highlight, and connect to diverse populations through various media channels. • Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, communications, or a related field, an earned Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience Preferred Qualifications • Proficient in Spanish • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint • Experience conducting research Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of USTA Texas and/or the nonprofit sector • Ability to successfully work with volunteers and follow non-profit systems of operations • Interest in diversity and inclusion • Strong attention to detail • Task-oriented and problem solver • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Self-starter with a “team-first” mentality • Ability to learn additional software as needed • Ability to travel and work nights and weekends as needed Hourly Wage • $12 to $14 per hour depending on experience, up to 20 hours a week Requirement • Personal interview Application Close Date: November 29, 2017 To apply, please send cover letter/letter of application, resume, how you heard about the opening (website, word of mouth, etc.), and a list of two references (including current contact information) to Marcos Valdez, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, by email at valdez@texas.usta.com.
