The Harris County Sheriff's Office is hiring for Detention Officers within the Criminal Justice Command. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for the proper care, custody, and control of inmates housed within the Harris County Jail facilities.
The Detention Officer (Jailer) Position is a Civil Service protected position with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
At least 20 years of age
Valid Texas Driver's License
Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 vision, normal color and peripheral vision
Correctable normal audible range in both ears
Pass pre-employment testing (written exam, physical agility, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, drug screening) and thorough background investigation
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel
Ability to lift up to 40lbs
Successful completion of the required seven (7) week Basic Jailers Course at the Harris County Sheriff's Office Academy
Note: Detention Officers are compensated during the required (7) week course. Successful completion of the (7) week Basic Jailers Course is required for continued employment as a Detention Officer with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
$1,348.80 bi-weekly / $16.86 hourly / $35,068.80 annually, plus benefits*
