Eastern Florida State College is currently seeking applications for the part-time position of Science Lab Coordinator on the Melbourne Campus in Melbourne, Florida. The Coordinator supports the operations of the Science Department by providing support and oversight of the Science Labs (Natural and Physical Science) on the campus. Oversees the day-to-day lab activities, state and federal regulatory compliance, lab staff and volunteers, and lab safety concerns. The following minimum qualifications for this position must be met before any applicant will be considered: Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a science discipline (Chemistry, Biology, or Physics). Knowledge of analytical chemistry. Ability to perform chemical calculations, prepare chemical solutions, and track consumable inventory. Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance of science equipment. Capability to maintain and cultivate live specimens. Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA/DEP, State Fire Marshal, and FDOH requirements/regulations, safety issues, SDS, and the ability to disseminate this information to faculty and students. Valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required. For individuals unable to obtain a driver’s license, a valid Florida ID is required. Employees and/or volunteers unable to obtain a Florida driver’s license, will not be allowed to drive any College vehicle, golf cart or any other motorized vehicle on college property.  This position will require successful fingerprinting and the candidate chosen will be required to pay the associated fee (currently $37.25). Minimum physical qualifications:  Work inside a laboratory environment with scientific equipment and, occasionally, outside in heat/cold, and wet/humid conditions caring for plants and collecting specimens. Require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and pathogenic bacteria. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 30 pounds. Ability to access, input and retrieve information and/or data from a computer.
