Warbird Consulting Partners is seeking an Interim Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist for an exciting opportunity with one of our clients in Ohio. Our client has requested this type of work for a specific project and has engaged Warbird to find the most qualified consultant for the project. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Review and analysis of health records to identify relevant diagnoses; assist team members with training and identification
  • Report to leadership on progress and team performance
  • Establish best practices and implement change to improve operations, as needed
  • Able to collaborate extensively with physicians, nurses, other care givers, and medical records coding staff to improve quality and completeness of documentation of care provided and coded; Queries physicians to clarify ambiguous, conflicting, or incomplete documentation.
  • Provides direction for concurrent modification to clinical documentation to ensure appropriate coding for reimbursement for clinical severity and services provided to patients with a DRG-based payer (Medicare/Medicaid)
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation of clinical information used to measure and report physician and facility outcomes
  • Facilitates modifications to clinical documentation to ensure that the medical record presents an accurate patient clinical picture and intent of the provider
  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of clinical information used for measuring and reporting physician and hospital outcomes
  • Conducts concurrent review of the medical records to increase the accuracy, clarity and specificity of provider documentation


- Bachelor's degree required

- Some combination of: Registered nurse, certified coding specialist, registered health information administrator, registered health information technician, certified clinical documentation specialist or certified documentation improvement practitioner

- +3 years CDI experience in a hospital with an understanding of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding

- Credentialed in CDI is ideal but not required

- Prior Consulting type work in managing and improving Coding/CDI departments

Ability to travel and be on site on a weekly basis at the client site in Ohio for the duration of the project which is expected to last 3 months.
