Primary Purpose: Prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate. Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.


Typical Duties: Calculate various statistical data: quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per manhour, equipment, etc. Research historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates. Participate in developing project update and bid package estimate documents. Maintain files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures. Assist in the monitoring of conceptual estimates with actual cost data.  Minimum supervision provided when estimating items in own discipline.  May independently estimate a small to medium-sized project.


Mental Requirements: General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing required. Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc. is essential.


Physically Requirements: Employee must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 lbs.   Must be able to speak clearly and understandably.  Must be able to hear safety warnings without visual references.


Licensing Requirements: possession of a valid Colorado driver's license as a requirement to operate vehicles and equipment; OSHA 10-Hour card; First-Aid card; may include other licensing as needed.


Language Requirements: Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, is required.


Training Requirements: Educational and experience requirements include: 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.  At least 5 years construction estimating, engineering or similar experience.
