Job Summary
As an Advocacy Coordinator, you will drive strategic advocacy efforts to address hunger and food insecurity within our community. Your role will involve providing essential aid in coordinating internal and external stakeholders, managing databases and trackers, and facilitating advocacy events and initiatives. Additionally, you will empower community members and partner agencies to advocate for hunger prevention policies through grassroots organizing, storytelling, and digital engagement. By leveraging your expertise in advocacy assistance, grassroots organizing, and outreach and education, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission to alleviate hunger and create lasting change within our community.
A Day in the Life
Advocacy Assistance
Update and maintain databases and advocacy trackers.
Attend community and/or coalition meetings and serve as a representative of the Regional Food Bank.
Coordinate logistics and assist in planning for advocacy events, campaigns and initiatives (including but not limited to: Hunger Action Month, Feeding Across the Aisle, Anti-Hunger Day at the Capitol).

Travel may be required for assignments, meetings and training. Weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Position Summary: The Bilingual Administrative Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily site operations at HRM’s Highlandtown office site, a site that conducts business in both English and Spanish. The Administrative Coordinator is the first contact the public has with House of Ruth Maryland at the Highlandtown office and is responsible for setting a helpful, welcoming, and informed tone for visitors. Many of the individuals seeking services at the Highlandtown office have experienced multiple traumas. In addition to intimate partner/ sexual violence (IPSV), many have also experienced violence during the immigration process, violence in their home country, and community based violence that includes discrimination and hate crimes. These complex traumatic events shape how survivors interact with the people around them, and the Administrative Coordinator must be comfortable engaging traumatized people, who may present for assistance in a variety of emotional states and not always be clear about what they are seeking from us. The Administrative Coordinator engages visitors with sensitivity, with safety in mind, and assists visitors in getting to the right person to address their needs in an efficient and confidential manner. The Administrative Coordinator is also primarily responsible for the ensuring the day to day operations of the Highlandtown office site run smoothly, coordinating schedules for coverage, site and community events; managing the use of spaces on site; interacting with vendors; and managing the food pantry logistics. Position Summary: The Bilingual Administrative Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily site operations at HRM’s Highlandtown office site, a site that conducts business in both English and Spanish. The Administrative Coordinator is the first contact the public has with House of Ruth Maryland at the Highlandtown office and is responsible for setting a helpful, welcoming, and informed tone for visitors. Many of the individuals seeking services at the Highlandtown office have experienced multiple traumas. In addition to intimate partner/ sexual violence (IPSV), many have also experienced violence during the immigration process, violence in their home country, and community based violence that includes discrimination and hate crimes. These complex traumatic events shape how survivors interact with the people around them, and the Administrative Coordinator must be comfortable engaging traumatized people, who may present for assistance in a variety of emotional states and not always be clear about what they are seeking from us. The Administrative Coordinator engages visitors with sensitivity, with safety in mind, and assists visitors in getting to the right person to address their needs in an efficient and confidential manner. Initially reporting to HECHO’s Executive Director, the HECHO Communications Coordinator will support the HECHO Communications Manager in developing compelling messages, uplifting strong messengers, and using targeted communications vehicles to support our advocacy and education campaigns. This person will work closely with the National Wildlife Federation’s communication department, HECHO’s advisory board members, HECHO’s Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council, and HECHO and other NWF staff to implement successful communications campaigns, projects, strategies, and tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Communications Manager to develop and implement a comprehensive communications outreach plan for both English-language and Spanish-language content, including an editorial and social media calendar, to authentically engage HECHO’s followers, event participants, and volunteers.
Regularly write content in English and Spanish including blog posts, fact sheets, issue briefs, letters, op-eds, and newsletters.
Write and distribute press releases and background materials in English and Spanish on efforts of interest to national, regional, and web media.
Develop talking points for program staff and prepare staff for media interviews.
Help with media training of staff, advisory board, and members.
Coordinate with partners and work on media strategy in coalition with trusted partners.

To achieve our mission of empowering Hispanic leaders to engage their communities in the conservation of our nation’s public lands, we are seeking an experienced Communications Coordinator to work in AZ, CO, DC, NM, NV, UT, Northern VA, or Central VA ( due to COVID-19 all employees are working remotely until we make return to office decisions ).
Initially reporting to HECHO’s Executive Director, the HECHO Communications Coordinator will support the HECHO Communications Manager in developing compelling messages, uplifting strong messengers, and using targeted communications vehicles to support our advocacy and education campaigns. This person will work closely with the National Wildlife Federation’s communication department, HECHO’s advisory board members, HECHO’s Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council, and HECHO and other NWF staff to implement successful communications campaigns, projects, strategies, and tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Communications Manager to develop and implement a comprehensive communications outreach plan for both English-language and Spanish-language content, including an editorial and social media calendar, to authentically engage HECHO’s followers, event participants, and volunteers.
Regularly write content in English and Spanish including blog posts, fact sheets, issue briefs, letters, op-eds, and newsletters.
Write and distribute press releases and background materials in English and Spanish on efforts of interest to national, regional, and web media.
Develop talking points for program staff and prepare staff for media interviews.
Help with media training of staff, advisory board, and members.
Coordinate with partners and work on media strategy in coalition with trusted partners.
Work with program staff and partners to assess media needs and develop appropriate media messages.
Assist with developing and maintaining media lists and contacts in English and Spanish media.
Create and schedule social media postings.
Track social media and website analytics.
Qualifications:
Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Familiarity and passion in conservation issues, public land management agencies, and legislative and administrative processes.
