Job Description

Title: Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDI) II / A&P Mechanic (MD530)

 Location: OCONUS- Various Locations, Afghanistan

 Position Status: Full Time

 Work Schedule:  Deployed work schedule is 10 hours per day, 6 days a week.

 Rotation Schedule:  Rotation schedule will be 90 days in Afghanistan and 30 days at Home of Record (HOR)/Rest and Recuperation (R&R)

 Brief Job Description:

Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and inspections.   Inspects aircraft and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs NDI.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic and Eddy Current equipment
  • Develops and writes NDI procedures
  • Inspects parts and NDI standards for various advanced materials
  • Supports inspection and engineering personnel as needed
  • Operates special kinds of testing instruments and equipment as required.
  • Works from complicated or detailed blueprints, diagram, engineering orders, etc.
  • Determines test method and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection.
  • Interprets nondestructive inspection test results, and provides information about defects to repair center
  • Analyzes wear metal content on engine lubricating oil and other fluids and recommends corrective action.
  • Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services
  • Performs nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems
  • Detects flaws such as cracks, de-laminations, voids, processing defects and heat damage using penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic test equipment
  • Determines metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors.
  • Performs operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools
  • Ensures lock out and tag out procedures are accomplished prior to maintenance on equipment
  • Performs maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment, as required
  • Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft ground support equipment
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft Technical Manuals, Maintenance Information and Action Messages and all technical guidance provided through government official representatives
  • Performs other tasks as needed

 

 

 

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must have at least five (5) years of rotary wing maintenance experience
  • Must have at least 3 years of NDI experience
  • Must have Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Level II qualification for Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particles, Ultrasonic Testing and Radiographic Testing disciplines; Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Level III qualification preferred
  • Must have Airframe & Power Plant (A&P) License
  • Technical or Military School Training is desired
  • Must have Active Passport and ability to obtain and maintain an Afghanistan Visa
  • Must be capable of passing background check
  • Must be capable of passing a drug screen
  • Must be capable of passing MOD15 Physical and dental exam to meet CENTCOM deployment standards (please ask for details if you are unfamiliar with this requirement)
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts
  • Must have basic knowledge of electrical theory and a thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers
  • This job requires a working knowledge of technical publications
  • Must be able to prioritize workloads and is required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks
  • Must be capable of qualifying to perform Hazardous Flight duties as Crewmembers/Non-Crewmembers
  • Must demonstrate positive, polite, and professional behavior at all times when dealing with co-workers, customers, and all levels of management
  • Must have the ability to communicate using clear, concise, and accurate English; both verbal and written are Required

 

Physical Requirements:

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen.  Must have sufficient mobility to include but not limited to bending, reaching, climbing, turning, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. Walking moderate to long distances may be required. Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull/move items frequently over 20 pounds. Occasionally required to lift/carry/push/pull/move heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment:

The environmental characteristic for this position is an aircraft hangar, warehouse setting and outdoors in an austere environment. Candidates should be able to adapt to environments listed. There may be exposure to high noises, exposure to chemicals and cleaning agents, and Personal Protection Equipment may be required for certain tasks. This position must be able to work comfortably outdoors and may be exposed to hot/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
