SUMMARY

This position is located in the Digital and Executive Communications Staff (DECS) of the Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Education (OPACE) for FSIS. The primary mission of OPACE is to effectively communicate with the public, media, other Government agencies, and public and internal audiences about food safety issues and FSIS programs and activities. OPACE is responsible for educating the public about safe food handling practices to help reduce the occurrence of foodborne illness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, develops, and coordinates a broad and comprehensive communications and educational program that will promote public understanding and acceptance of Agency programs, policies, and decisions.
  • Analyzes consumer concerns and needs, and recommends appropriate action.
  • Prepares suitable informational strategies and materials.
  • Selects appropriate methods for communicating program goals and accomplishments.
  • Participates in the development of educational programs including: preparation, editing, and issuance of consumer food handling publications and webinars; and issuance of consumer press releases and other print and broadcast media outreach.

REQUIRED TRAVEL

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position up to 5% of the time.
