Job Description

JCFS is looking for a Part-time Respite Worker (5 hours/week with possibility to increase hours). Respite workers support to children, youth and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder to engage in a wide variety of activities, interests, and skill building opportunities. Respite may take place in a group setting, 1:1 and in the community. Respite workers provide supports, supervision, and fun opportunities to participants while parents and caregivers can enjoy a well-deserved break.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the well-being and safety of individuals with disabilities
  • Engage individuals in social/recreational activities with peers, have fun!
  • Provide therapeutic responses to individuals that support them with their respite goals and encourage appropriate behavior.
  • Provides support and assistance if needed with lifting, dressing, walking, feeding, toileting and diaper changing
  • Work in a team approach with other staff to set up space, clean-up, and assist other staff when needed
  • Communicate with supervisor on a regular basis including supervision meetings
  • Participate in mandatory quarterly training and other necessary trainings

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older, 21 years of age preferred
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience and/or knowledge of intellectual/developmental disabilities
  • Ability to accept and engage in supervision
  • Must meet physical demands of the position
  • Must obtain and maintain C.P.R./First Aid certification
  • Must successfully complete a background check and physical exam
  • Direct Support Professional (DSP) credential preferred
  • This position requires site visits to locations which may or may not be accessible by public transportation and client transportation in a four-wheeled vehicle. Must be able to drive, have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable access to a four-wheeled vehicle to travel in the Chicago metropolitan area.
  • Must be able to work Sundays

New hires would need to be fully vaccinated with 1 or 2 doses and booster and provide their card upon hire OR begin receiving the booster within 2 weeks of being hired and participate in weekly COVID testing until fully vaccinated OR provide documentation for an ADA or religious exemption and participate in weekly COVID testing.
