The Natural Resources Planner III supports the implementation and management of watershed restoration projects supported by the Chesapeake and Coastal Service. This position acts as the Watershed Restoration field coordinator for the installation, planting, adaptive management and monitoring of targeted watershed and habitat projects. The NRPIII is responsible for scheduling project work dates, coordinating supplies, and maintaining equipment inventory. They will track program objectives and accomplishments and create reports as necessary. The NRPIII also coordinates with project partners including state and local government agencies, non-profits, contractors and field technicians. This position monitors, verifies, and reports on project status and completes functional assessments. They will review and interpret data involving ecology, hydrology, forestry, physical and chemical processes to improve land management and project maintenance. The NRP III creates reports, and guidance documents for the ongoing maintenance and management needs for projects and assists in decisions on appropriate management actions. This position also assists with technical assistance, outreach and education on certain watershed & restoration themes and leads volunteers in plantings, invasive species management, and clean up activities. The main objective of CCS restoration projects are to increase the implementation of ecological restoration in Maryland through the construction of projects that reduce nutrient pollution to the Bay and enhance, create and/or restore terrestrial or aquatic habitats that are resilient to climate change.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.
Experience: Three years of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science.

Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical, biological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning, management, administration, development, environmental, urban or regional planning; resources economics or development; environmental system management; water or land resources planning and management; environmental landscape architecture; or the physical, biological, chemical or environmental sciences for up to three years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the general natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or general natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the general natural resources management and biological sciences field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

Description: The overall purpose of this position is to provide educational, and community engagement support to the Conservation Education and Stewardship Division, in the context of developing, managing, and conducting science education and stewardship programs and materials. The incumbent will support the conservation education program and support the development of English and Spanish educational materials and programming. This may include support for aquatic and angler education, climate education and community stewardship programs. The incumbent will also conduct and expand other environmental education programs for the Department that involve working with K-12 schools on indoor and outdoor science investigations and student stewardship activities; programs engaging teachers and students in studying impacts of climate change; activities at Maryland State Parks and other DNR education priorities. This work will require developing instructional materials based on the real science, research and restoration work of DNR and other state and Federal agencies and aligned to current academic standards and teaching practices; delivering the materials to community members and educators through professional development workshops; assisting with field experiences with students; collaborating with outside partners outside; and managing comprehensive educational and stewardship programs. The position is housed within the Aquatic Resources Education Program (AREP), Center for Conservation Education & Stewardship in the Chesapeake and Coastal Service Unit. It requires working closely with staff from other divisions within the unit and throughout DNR, as well as with outside partners. This collaborative work is key to developing education programs that are scientifically and technically sound, based on the research and science of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. This position works cooperatively with the Maryland State Department of Education, teachers, and school system administrators throughout Maryland, county environmental education centers, and environmental educators and science/technical staff from another state, federal, and non-government organizations to develop and administer natural resource education and stewardship programs.
