Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree and previous experience working with first year college participants.
  • Study abroad experience required.
  • College of Charleston graduate preferred.
  • Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge and understanding of College of Charleston’s resources and support mechanisms available to first year students.

· Must possess knowledge and skills in planning and programming events.

· Work experience in college settings specifically with first semester students is required.

· Must have excellent communication and planning skills.

· Must have demonstrated leadership, organizational, interpersonal, problem solving skills and public speaking skills.

· Familiarity with various social media platforms.

· Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite is required.

· Must be able to work independently.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Full-time position with benefits* and a 5 month duration.

TRAINING AND PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

· Attend professional development and training session in July and August before iCharleston program starts.

· Must partake in weekly meetings with iCharleston Director and weekly team meetings throughout the academic year.

COMMUNICATION

· Leads appropriate communication among all program constituents which include iCharleston participants, their parents and family, CofC faculty and staff, and the iCharleston Director.

· Explains iCharleston guidelines and requirements to participants so they completely understand program expectations for successful and official admission into the College of Charleston.

· Sends out emails to iCharleston parents as needed and consistent with consent. Creates and sends newsletters throughout both Fall and Spring semester with program updates throughout the iCharleston program.

· Coordinates iCharleston various social media platforms connected to the program in an appropriate and positive manner.

PROGRAMMING

· Directs and implements all facets of iCharleston programming development both abroad and on College of Charleston campus including planning, dissemination of information to participants, and execution of events throughout entire academic year.

· Plans and coordinates academic and social programming for iCharleston participants. Creates 3 – 5 programs on-campus to support transition into College of Charleston during Spring semester.

· Plans and coordinates cultural and academic excursions with iCharleston participants specific to the location abroad. Works with partner institutions to facilitate programming to support iCharleston participants.

· Leads iCharleston participants in their understanding of the traditions, customs, and norms of the country, city, and community in which they live.

MENTORING

· Meets with participants on a regular basis to ensure a successful transition into iCharleston partner institutions during Fall semester and the College of Charleston during Spring semester.

· Leads iCharleston participants in their use of resources offered by iCharleston partner institutions and College of Charleston resources to support retention efforts for the program.

· Mentors and guides participants so they develop the proper academic, campus, and personal life.

· Performs one-on-one meetings and group meetings with iCharleston participants to support retention efforts surrounding ongoing academic, social, and personal success.

· Holds weekly office hours for iCharleston participants.

· Attends weekly meetings with iCharleston liaisons at abroad institutions and receives updates from iCharleston professors on the academic progress of program participants.

· Abides by College of Charleston and host institution policies and procedures.

· Supports Pre-Departure Orientation for iCharleston participants and families departing in Fall semester.

· Supports College of Charleston Orientation for iCharleston participants and families arriving in Spring semester.

· Supports on-going program assessment plan for iCharleston participants abroad and during Spring semester.
