Hiring Range:  $60,004.12 - $67,444.63, commensurate with experience

Performs supervisory water and wastewater system maintenance work for the County's Utility Department. Involves supervising crews engaged in the maintenance, installation and repair of water and wastewater equipment used in the system. Schedules work to be completed by crew. monitor, create, and keep records on PM schedules. Finds, schedules, and creates training for employees to include safety, and technical. Produces shop drawings and sketches for equipment. Orders supplies and job materials for trucks. Updates and maintains records, plans, drawings, files, and supplies. Interacts with County agencies and contractors on inspections and acceptance of water and wastewater systems. Implements changes to systems and programs as needed. Manages and controls the maintenance of MATTAWOMAN water reclamation facility and the central area station, also in Waldorf systems, and south region of the County. 

Essential Job Functions

• Installs, maintains, and repairs water distribution and wastewater collection piping, systems, and equipment, also performs maintenance at water treatment plants, and wastewater treatment plants. 
• Schedules maintenance and repair of assigned specialty equipment and machinery. 
• Trains, coordinates, and evaluates assigned personnel. 
• Schedules work with contractors. 
• Processes invoices for purchasing.
• Works with engineering with updating technology.
• Ensures adequate maintenance and cleanliness of assigned work areas in accordance with established safety regulations. 
• Monitors/operates the County wide Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) alarm system, County radios for the County Department of Public Works/Utilities.
• Keeps records of preventive maintenance and repairs, also uses computerized maintenance tracking system (INFOR). 
• Manages timecards and leave request.
• Produces shop drawings and sketches.   
• Stocks truck with proper materials and supplies. 
• Cleans and lubricates machinery, changes oil, and practices proper preventive maintenance. 
• Updates and maintains required records, plans, drawings, files, and supplies. 
• Interacts with County agencies and contractors on inspection and acceptance of water and wastewater systems. 
• Implements modifications to systems and programs as needed. 
• Investigates and helps resolve homeowner's complaints.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned. 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).  Five (5) years of progressively responsible mechanical maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Basic knowledge of electrical systems. 

Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

Subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.

Subject to call back in emergencies.

Serve in on-call duty on a rotational basis.

May work in confined space areas.

• Knowledge of methods and procedures used in maintaining and repairing water and wastewater machinery and equipment. 
• Knowledge of the use and care of hand, power and other tools used in the work. 
• Knowledge of electrical applications and safe working procedures. 
• Knowledge of effective technique of supervision. 
• Ability to work with citizens to resolve complaints. 
• Ability to complete the same work as my crew of employees. 
• Ability to follow through on matters and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.
• Ability to supervise mechanical maintenance on machinery and equipment used in water and wastewater systems. 
• Ability to perform physically demanding work. 
• Ability to use the tools and equipment of the work efficiently. 
• Ability to interpret and apply technical guides. 
• Ability to properly rig, hoist, install and remove heavy equipment.  
• Ability to pass annual Pulmonary Breathing Function Test (will be required to be clean-shaven).
• Ability to enter confined spaces, with proper training. 
• Ability to learn and use Geographic Information System (GIS).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is regularly active with periods of heavy exertion. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 100 pounds; climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding; bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; feel the size, shape, and temperature of items; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors. This is considered an essential job; you will be required to be present during snow or weather emergencies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office, in shop or field settings and outside environment. This is a sewage treatment plant and employee are subject to hazards of that environment; exposed to raw sewage; and exposed to in inclement weather.
