What We Can Achieve Together:

The Senior Policy Advisor for Transmission leads and implements the Conservancy’s strategy to support the expansion of electric transmission capacity necessary to enable the U.S. to stay on track to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The advisor has a particular focus on accelerating transmission expansion through maximizing the capabilities of the existing grid (co-location, reconductoring, grid enhancing technologies) and supporting essential new transmission lines that are designed to avoid and minimize environmental and social impacts.

We’re Looking for You:

The Senior Policy Advisor for Transmission interacts with the federal government, state and regional agencies, tribal governments, non-governmental organizations, associations and coalitions, and/or businesses to advance planning and policy to support regional and interregional transmission planning and accelerate project design, development and approval processes while preserving robust community engagement and environmental protections. The Senior Policy Advisor is a member of the North America Climate Mitigation Program and works closely with counterparts in the Conservancy’s North America divisions, state business units, and North America and Global climate teams to coordinate the organization’s transmission strategy. They identify policy opportunities, undertake policy analysis, evaluate the potential for and lead strategic partnerships, capture and share useful lessons and experiences, and develop and implement strategies to influence transmission sector planning and policy. The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and presentation skills and experience implementing strategic initiatives. This position provides an exciting opportunity to impact and contribute to the ongoing mission of conservation.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in energy science, environmental policy, business or related field and 6 years of senior management level experience in government relations, corporate sector, or equivalent combination of education/experience.  
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Federal agency, state agency, association, non-governmental organization, electric utility, energy consulting firm or transmission organization experience or experience in a corporate environment with a focus on energy planning or project development and delivery.
  • Direct experience working with partners and government agencies.
  • Experience in strategy development and implementation.
  • Experience negotiating complex high-profile or sensitive agreements.
  • Experience with relationship-building.
  • Project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organization.
  • Experience with written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree, Law Degree, or Equivalent 
  • Experience with community engagement in project planning, design, and delivery.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with management-level individuals within the corporate sector, government, or non-profit sectors.
  • Excellent team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with governments, corporations, partners, donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $89,000 - $114,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
