WOWT First Alert 6 is looking for an aggressive, results-driven news leader to serve as our Assistant News Director. This is a role for someone committed to winning, with a proven track record of growing audiences, executing multi-platform strategies, and building a newsroom culture defined by urgency and excellence.
At the heart of this role is our First Alert brand. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with producers, anchors, and reporters every day to ensure our content is urgent, impactful, and true to what First Alert means. You will also take the lead on planning and executing breaking news and special event coverage, making sure we are always ready to respond when it matters most.
The successful candidate will have Champion the First Alert brand by working daily with producers, anchors, and reporters to ensure content meets our standards for urgency, accuracy, and viewer impact. Spearhead planning and execution of breaking news and special event coverage, ensuring the team is prepared, coordinated, and aggressive when big stories hit. Develop tactics and strategies to grow audience performance across key demographics and multiple platforms. Understand and execute multi-platform content strategies, with a strong eye for showcasing across TV, streaming, web, and social. Research and plan for future news events; anticipate coverage needs before stories break. Work closely with news management and other departments on the design, delivery, and style of newscasts. Apply strong editorial judgment, journalistic ethics, and knowledge of libel law to every content decision.
We prefer a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field. 3 - 5 years' experience as Senior Producer in a larger market or Executive Producer or equivalent leadership role. Proven, aggressive breaking news leader with a track record of growing audiences. Deep understanding of the First Alert brand and what it demands of a newsroom. Strong people skills and the ability to coach and inspire producers, anchors, and reporters. Keen sense of logistics and the ability to lead effectively in high-pressure, fast-moving situations. Multi-platform fluency across TV, streaming, web, and social. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Good communication skills and strong people skills are necessary. Ability to perform tasks associated with office duties.
