RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Leadership and Advocacy (DLA) promotes the leadership development of participants and champions their engagement in creating a more equitable, just community. The DLA designs and implements an organization-wide strategic plan for community organizing, leadership development, policy and advocacy efforts, and partnership development that supports the mission and values of Adelante Mujeres and specifically addresses the areas in which Adelante Mujeres is most engaged (immigrant and environmental justice, education, small business development, and health equity). The DLA supervises Leadership and Advocacy Program Leads and supports the delivery of effective programming. In addition, the DLA partners with Adelante Mujeres senior team to enhance leadership development across Adelante Mujeres. The Director of Leadership and Advocacy serves on Adelante Mujeres Senior Management Team and reports to the Executive Director.

  • Builds, motivates, and promotes a high-quality Leadership and Advocacy Team by creating and encouraging a participatory work environment where mutual accountability for shared work, respect, professionalism, open communication, and trust are highly valued.

  • Leads and supports efforts to seek community input to shape the Leadership and Advocacy Department’s focus and strategies.

  • Guides the development and implementation of the Strategic Plans of the Leadership and Advocacy Team and Adelante's Annual Policy and Advocacy Plan.

  • Provides policy and advocacy support to Adelante’s other directors and program leads. 

  • Ensures Leadership and Advocacy Programs deliver high-quality, culturally responsive services, and utilize curricula and materials that are culturally and developmentally appropriate to further grassroots empowerment and positive social and political change.

  • Helps develop and support successful grassroots leadership development and advocacy efforts such as trainings, conferences, and lobby days; ensures effective outreach for strong participation.

  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with local, state and national partners in support of Adelante Mujeres’ leadership and advocacy work.

  • Provides support for community-driven solutions, broad base-building strategies, and creative approaches to righting injustices.

  • Monitors the external environment and listens deeply to the impacted community regarding issues of concern; provides clear analysis and strategic recommendations on policy and advocacy.

  • Leads the development and implementation of appropriate program assessments.

  • Manages program budgets and grant expenditures and approves expenses.

  • Assists in writing program-related grant proposals, meeting with foundation officers

    and other potential funders, and writing progress reports.

  • Communicates effectively with all Adelante Mujeres staff, partners, and families.

  • Supports Adelante Mujeres’s Mission, Vision, and Values in daily activities.


QUALIFICATIONS:

We recognize that there are multiple expressions of professional readiness. When we review applications, we take a comprehensive look at each applicant. Our goal is to assess your unique strengths. The ideal candidate has many of the following skills and experience:

  • A passionate commitment to the goals and mission of Adelante Mujeres and support

    for immigrant and BIPOC communities.

  • Three to five years’ experience in community organizing, advocacy campaigns, public

    policy development or similar experiences.

  • Experience in coalition-building, including the ability to develop effective and

    collaborative relationships with participants and stakeholders for strategic mobilization.

  • Effective popular education facilitation and training skills to guide staff and support

    grassroots leadership development.

  • Experience engaging policymakers and the media to increase political influence.

  • Understanding of and experience at the intersection of civic engagement, community

    organizing, politics and policy.

  • Experience with creative, non-traditional tools for transformation such as art, poetry

    and music.

  • Committed to education, social justice, women’s empowerment and the environment.

  • Bachelor’s in relevant Leadership and Advocacy field.

  • Fully Bilingual-Spanish/English with a DEI and culturally responsive lens.

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Additional Requirements:

  • Possess current driver’s license and auto insurance coverage.

  • Ability to travel locally, regionally, and/or nationally to attend workshops or trainings.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

  • Salary range: $70,000 – 75,000 depending on qualifications.

  • Classification: Full-time, Exempt.

  • Telework: Primarily during pandemic, up to 50% after pandemic.

  • Benefits: Health, vision, dental, short-term and long-term disability, 401K pension plan, life insurance, professional development opportunities, paid leave of absence, paid holidays (12.5 days annually), sick days (up to 12 days annually) and vacation per year (20 days years one through five, 25 days after five years).
