Position Overview: Rock Creek Conservancy is a small, but growing nonprofit that serves as the philanthropic and stewardship partner to Rock Creek (national) park and is a local watershed organization. The Director of Development will lead development and communication strategy and operations to raise awareness of the Conservancy’s work and mission, to grow attendance and engagement at programs and in stewardship, and to build philanthropic support for the Conservancy’s work. Major responsibilities will include the following:
Lead a multi-million-dollar capital campaign
Develop individual giving program, including significant growth in major gifts
With support from development staff, grow institutional giving
With executive director and park superintendent, identify and build processes to empower all staff and board members as fundraisers or partners
Document, train staff, and adaptively manage strong development processes, including metrics to track progress towards revenue and stewardship goals and coordination with National Park Service requirements
Work with board and leadership volunteer committees to build fundraising and ambassadorship capabilities and comfort
Desired Qualifications:
8+ years of professional experience in nonprofit development
Significant experience with major gift program, including successfully closing gifts of $25,000 and above
Familiarity with DC-area philanthropy
Experience with fundraising for national parks a plus
Great project and staff management skills, including time management, goal-setting, multitasking and prioritization with demonstrated success managing multiple tasks concurrently
Experience managing and developing staff and contractors
Ability to travel throughout the Rock Creek watershed for programs and to work occasional evenings and weekends

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
Form strong partnerships with Co-CEOs, Chief Finance and Administration Officer (CFAO), Chief Impact Officer (CIO), Senior Director of Finance (SDF), and Regional Directors to develop multi-year organizational fundraising priorities, revenue targets and projections, effective engagement plans for high-level current and potential supporters and the media, and accurate and timely updates to the Board.
Work with the Donor Impact team and the Global Leadership Team (GLT) to execute the current growth plan aligned with the strategic plan tied with Destination 2030 and with the One For All Alliance; key emphasis will be on growing the number of new prospects/donors and strengthening the portfolio in the long-term into a greater number of key donors/funders.
Ensure performance, strategy, and alignment of the organization's revenue-generating activities and external relations including brand and communications.

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, dynamic Director of Development (DOD) for Latin America to join our team, a senior leader position within TNC. The DOD will lead our fundraising work in collaboration with other team members across TNC globally and in the region. They will lead the design and implementation of our revenue strategy to unlock conservation and sustainable development at a scale that really matters. What You Will Do:
This new role offers an exciting opportunity to support Bottom Line’s national team in achieving our goals on behalf of the students we serve. Reporting to the Chief Regional Officer, the Vice President of Regional Growth will be responsible for leading new site cultivation and selection in support of doubling the number of students served by Bottom Line to 20,000 by the year 2030. Bottom Line expects to open between five and eight new sites before the year 2030. This position will work in close partnership with key members of the National Team (including CEO, Chief of External Affairs, Managing Director of Development) to assess the potential of new markets and support the launch of expansion sites.
By working in multiple potential sites in a variety of stages, this person will work to quickly build champions of Bottom Line’s work in new markets and relationships with a diverse set of local stakeholders including community representatives, philanthropic leaders, corporate partners, non-profit colleagues, and educational constituents. The vice president of regional growth will quickly develop a deep understanding of the Bottom Line model and a broad understanding of evolving college-going landscape to advocate within each prospective site.
Strategic Planning and New Site Prospecting (20%)
Refine and execute strategic plan for Bottom Line’s geographic expansion to 5-8 new communities by 2030
Through research and dialogue with local stakeholders, develop/refine landscape analyses to determine if conditions for success exist in potential new sites
Use continuous data gathering and research to refine and codify Bottom Line’s site selection process
Develop a deep understanding of revenue potential in each site by conducting local funding landscape analysis
Develop and maintain current understanding of college completion gaps, programs and funders around the country to inform selection of new sites
Cultivate Champions for Prospective Sites (50%)
Lead the identification of key stakeholders in prospective sites (community representatives, philanthropic leaders, corporate partners, non-profit colleagues, and educational constituents)
Create and execute on a stakeholder engagement plan for each prospective new site leveraging existing relationships across current Bottom Line staff as well as members of the board of directors and other leadership committees
Build strong relationships with university partners to communicate Bottom Line model and establish foundation for ongoing collaboration
In collaboration with the External Affairs team, ensure consistent, One Bottom Line branding and messaging in each new region
Build relationships with high schools with high potential for participation and to support future recruitment efforts
Utilize relationships, research, and knowledge to build pipeline of start-up and long-term donors in prioritized sites
Develop fundraising strategic plan unique to each prospective site that considers how to best leverage members of the Bottom Line national team and other key supporters
In collaboration with CEO and national managing director of development, maintain a portfolio of donors who have identified interest in a particular site prospect or expressed interest in investing in Bottom Line’s expansion
Build a local community of champions who are prepared to play significant roles in Bottom Line’s new site as members of the Founding Committee and potential advisory board members
Through networking, identify potential candidates for the executive director role in each site
New Site Development (20%)
Serve on the hiring team for the executive director
Support executive director to design and implement a strategy to raise significant start-up funding that is in line with Bottom Line’s Development plan
Support executive director to establish regional Board of Directors, seeded by members of Founding Committee, develop a local fundraising plan, and finalize strategic partnerships
Execute transfer of local relationships to executive director and ensure smooth transition
Supervision & Coaching (10%)
Supervise the director of regional growth (new position in FY24) along with consultants who will guide various aspects of new site selection
Support executive directors in pre-launch year with translating strategy documents into realistic action plans
Support executive director in hiring first development team members
Collaborate with the new site supports team and managing director of network integration and new site supports to ensure strong transition of regions from pre-launch to launch

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is seeking an engaging and innovative Kansas State Director to lead the State Business Unit and partner closely with the Great Plains Division as we execute on our ambitious conservation goals.
The Conservancy has worked in Kansas for more than 30 years, protecting more than 190,000 acres of land and serving as a trusted partner in state and regional land and water management initiatives. The Kansas Chapter works closely with a variety of partners on conservation strategies statewide including our priorities of Land Protection and Stewardship, Water and Agriculture, and Climate and Energy.

The State Director essential functions include:

Earthworks’ Federal Fossil Fuels Campaign Manager will join our growing Energy Infrastructure and Petrochemicals team works to uplift frontline community opposition to oil, gas, and petrochemical infrastructure and advance policies towards a managed decline of the fossil fuel industry. The position is responsible for advancing our federal campaign to stop oil and gas exports and keep fossil fuels in the ground, leveraging creative organizing strategies to complement our Policy team’s advocacy work.
This position works closely with Earthworks’ program staff who work to reduce risks to water, health, air and climate from oil and gas production, with our communication, digital and development departments, and will participate in, and help to facilitate, engagement with the national movement to keep fossil fuels in the ground. The ideal candidate will thrive at managing multiple priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced campaigning environment, advancing and empowering leadership from frontline affected communities, and maintaining solid relationships with diverse partners.
Core Responsibilities
Lead our efforts to build a powerful public pressure campaign to stop oil and gas exports, coordinating with our campaign team on the ground in frontline communities
Organize events, on the ground actions, and implement creative tactics to advance campaign goals in coordination with coalition partners and allies
Assist our Senior Policy Advocate with policy research and government relations strategies, including facilitating opportunities for frontline community members to meet with administration members and representatives
Support the coordination of the Stop Fossil Fuel Exports campaign space
Support Earthworks’ engagement in the Build Back Fossil Free campaign and similar coalition efforts to keep fossil fuels in the ground
Conduct research, develop strategy, and produce materials such as fact sheets to support federal fossil fuel infrastructure campaigns
Develop strong, accountable relationships with communities resisting oil, gas and petrochemical infrastructure projects aligned with the Principles of Environmental Justice
Help serve as a conduit between local and regional campaigns and national and international efforts to stop the expansion of oil and gas
Amplify needs and stories of impacted communities through press outreach and social media, in coordination with communications staff
Represent Earthworks at external events, meetings, and public hearings and provide motivation and tools to grassroots constituencies
Provide written materials and/or verbal communications with individual and institutional donors as needed, with the support of Earthworks’ philanthropy team

Qualifications

The Federal Fossil Fuels Campaign Manager will report to Earthworks’ Senior Manager - Energy Infrastructure and will join our energy program which includes federal policy experts, communications staff, development staff and a field advocate team active in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Benefits and Salary
This is a full time, permanent position. The salary for this position is competitive for the small to medium non-profits, ranging from $67,000-$75,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include full health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and their partner/family (plus a partially employer funded HSA), paid vacation, and a retirement plan with an employer match, after one year. Earthworks’ Federal Fossil Fuels Campaign Manager will join our growing Energy Infrastructure and Petrochemicals team works to uplift frontline community opposition to oil, gas, and petrochemical infrastructure and advance policies towards a managed decline of the fossil fuel industry. The position is responsible for advancing our federal campaign to stop oil and gas exports and keep fossil fuels in the ground, leveraging creative organizing strategies to complement our Policy team’s advocacy work.
This position works closely with Earthworks’ program staff who work to reduce risks to water, health, air and climate from oil and gas production, with our communication, digital and development departments, and will participate in, and help to facilitate, engagement with the national movement to keep fossil fuels in the ground. The ideal candidate will thrive at managing multiple priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced campaigning environment, advancing and empowering leadership from frontline affected communities, and maintaining solid relationships with diverse partners.
Core Responsibilities
Lead our efforts to build a powerful public pressure campaign to stop oil and gas exports, coordinating with our campaign team on the ground in frontline communities
Organize events, on the ground actions, and implement creative tactics to advance campaign goals in coordination with coalition partners and allies
Assist our Senior Policy Advocate with policy research and government relations strategies, including facilitating opportunities for frontline community members to meet with administration members and representatives
Support the coordination of the Stop Fossil Fuel Exports campaign space
Support Earthworks’ engagement in the Build Back Fossil Free campaign and similar coalition efforts to keep fossil fuels in the ground
Conduct research, develop strategy, and produce materials such as fact sheets to support federal fossil fuel infrastructure campaigns
Develop strong, accountable relationships with communities resisting oil, gas and petrochemical infrastructure projects aligned with the Principles of Environmental Justice
Help serve as a conduit between local and regional campaigns and national and international efforts to stop the expansion of oil and gas
Amplify needs and stories of impacted communities through press outreach and social media, in coordination with communications staff
Represent Earthworks at external events, meetings, and public hearings and provide motivation and tools to grassroots constituencies
Provide written materials and/or verbal communications with individual and institutional donors as needed, with the support of Earthworks’ philanthropy team
Act as an Earthworks’ media spokesperson for campaigns
Share organizational responsibilities to maintain a healthy and safe workplace and a positive, anti-racist work culture
Qualifications
Experience in conducting field-based work and engaging communities
At least 5 years experience running advocacy campaigns
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues on fundraising, communicating, digital organizing, and community relationship building; project and/or campaign management experience
Commitment and experience working with frontline communities and working towards racial justice
Demonstrated understanding of grassroots organizing, movement building and tactical escalation
Excellent written communications skills and experience with blogging, social media, online membership communication, fundraising proposals, and research projects
Excellent oral communication skills and experience with public speaking and facilitating meetings
Campaign experience in some or all of the following areas: climate change, petrochemical production, human rights, energy policy, specific fossil fuel sectors, finance, corporate social responsibility
Ability to work both on one’s own and under direction as part of a project team.
The Federal Fossil Fuels Campaign Manager will report to Earthworks’ Senior Manager - Energy Infrastructure and will join our energy program which includes federal policy experts, communications staff, development staff and a field advocate team active in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Benefits and Salary
This is a full time, permanent position. The salary for this position is competitive for the small to medium non-profits, ranging from $67,000-$75,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include full health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and their partner/family (plus a partially employer funded HSA), paid vacation, and a retirement plan with an employer match, after one year. Additionally, after 7 years, staff are eligible for a 3 month, fully paid sabbatical.
Location, Travel & COVID-19
While this position must be based in the Washington, DC area, Earthworks has flexible work from home policies. This position will entail domestic and potentially some international travel as public health conditions permit.
