The American Red Cross is currently seeking a Mobile SAF-IS Chapter Program Director at the Wiesbaden Chapter to support the Service to Armed Forces and International Services Division mission. This position is responsible for the Wiesbaden, Spangdahlem, Stuttgart and Benelux Military Communities. This position is regional, but also part of our mobile staff which requires meeting strict medical and security clearances prior to employment. In this role worldwide deployment is a condition of employment. Mobile staff members typically deploy for 6 months at a time typically, approximately once every 18-24 months, and can be sent to any military base in the world. This position does require weekend and evenings as needed. Is an accompanied location.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Supervise team to administer the delivery of American Red Cross services to a complex military installation and/or hospital, along with the associated United States military members, veterans, and their families in accordance with Red Cross policies and procedures. Manage the daily operations and provide guidance, support, and assistance to Red Cross offices in establishing, growing, and maintaining programs and services. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD:
1. Provide guidance, support, and assistance to Red Cross field personnel, and ensure SAF programs and services, Training Services, Disaster Cycle Services, and Armed Forces Blood Services are carried out consistently and in accordance with specified Red Cross policies and procedures within their assigned area. Responsible for management of a team which may include hiring, assigning work, coordinating, training, coaching, and evaluating performance of staff.
2. Build and cultivate external relationships with community leaders, senior military branch leaders, government, civic organizations and other charitable agencies. Capably represent Red Cross in dealing with diverse customer groups with differing regulations, procedures and missions. Outreach includes command meetings, education briefings, presentations or information sessions with community service organizations, local schools, etc.
3. Manage a volunteer program to meet the workforce model and enable delivery of programs and services. Assist with developing recruitment plans and ensure volunteer staff ratio reflects the diversity of the population being served.
4. Ensure the efficient and consistent delivery of programs and services to all clients in assigned area, including follow up and referrals.
5. Provide assistance on projects and work assignments as needed. Monitor and report on the outcomes and results of programs and services to ensure organizational accountability and make recommendations for continuous improvement to ensure metrics are consistently met.
6. Manage expenditures to ensure programs are operating within budget.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Managerial Experience: 1 year of lead or supervisory experience.
Skills and Abilities: Must be able to operate independently, with initiative, and manage an assigned area of responsibility, with general supervision. Strong computer skills are required. Public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing are required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multiple priorities are essential. Familiarity with military culture, regulations and protocol is strongly desired. Ability to work on a team.
For mobile positions: U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain a secret security clearance and a no-fee U.S. passport. Worldwide mobility is a condition of employment and an essential function of this position. Must accept work assignments anywhere in the world, including conflict areas, where the American Red Cross is providing services to members of the military and their families. Must meet strict medical and physical requirements, including immunizations required by the U.S. military. May be required to wear military uniforms, and live and work in harsh and stressful environment in conflict areas. Periodically accompanies the military on deployments.
Travel: Travel may be required.*Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
A current, valid driver's license with good driving record is required.
Work Conditions:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
