Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire an energetic licensed Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing services in the care and treatment of the students at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, which includes services to individuals with visual impairments and multiple disabilities and clinical services to the employees of Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI). This position serves as a designated lead worker to professional nursing staff. The incumbent prepares and maintains medical and nursing records and histories such as recording physician’s orders, charting medications, recording patient reactions and behavior. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Provides professional nursing services in the care and treatment of the students at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, which includes services to individuals with visual impairments and multiple disabilities and clinical services to the employees of Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
  • Serves as designated lead worker to lower-level staff.
  • Prepares and maintains medical and nursing records and histories such as recording physician’s orders, charting medications, recording patient reactions and behavior.
  • Provides professional communication regarding the care and needs of the students, with ISVI staff, medical providers, parents, guardians, the students, and others.
  • Under the direction of a physician, provides first aid and emergency medical care in cases of illness, injury and other medical emergencies to students, employees and visitors of ISVI.
  • Inventories orders and maintains security of medications, drugs and other medical equipment and supplies.
  • Manages and documents the ISVI’s student and employee immunization program.
  • Assists in coordinating and implementing continuing health information and education and training programs for students and employees of ISVI.
  • Participates in staff meetings with the ISVI professional disciplines in the development and executing of plans for students in need of medical and specialized nursing care and services.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience, Or (b) a bachelor’s degree in nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing experience, Or (c) a master’s degree in nursing.
  • Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to serve on an “on call” basis.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours:  6:30pm - 7:00am, rotating days off. 30 min paid lunch.  (Health Services)

Week 1 Work: Mon, Tues, Sat

Week 2 Work: Sun, Wed, Thurs

Week 3 Work: Mon, Thurs, Fri

*If Friday night or Saturday shift falls on a weekend students are not on campus, the schedule will be adjusted to work an additional day that week.
