Job Description

The Redistricting Data Hub (RDH) provides individuals, civil rights groups, and good government organizations the data, tools, and knowledge to participate effectively in the redistricting process. In service of this mission, we host thousands of datasets in all 50 states, from the census block to the district level, and continue to add new data that is useful for nonpartisan map drawing and analysis. This data is free to the public, and accompanied by technical support and nonpartisan analysis on request.

The Data Collection Fellowship provides the opportunity to do a deep dive into redistricting and contribute to our data collection, validation, and processing efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contacting county/state governments by email and phone to obtain precinct boundaries and other data
  • Scraping, digitizing, and validating precinct maps
  • Researching candidates online to collect and validate demographic and other information
  • Ad hoc research (quantitative or qualitative) supporting data or analysis requests for RDH or our stakeholders
  • Participating in external calls with data experts from nonprofits or academics

The list of key skills attempts to communicate all the skills we are interested in, and approximates order of importance. We do not expect a single candidate to have experience in every area, and if you are interested in the role and feel you meet at least 5 of the items on the list, please do apply.
