WHO WE ARE
The Humane League (THL) is a global nonprofit ending the abuse of animals raised for food. THL fosters a high-energy culture of teamwork and mission-driven problem solving, and we have earned recognition as Top Charity from Animal Charity Evaluators for all of their rating periods. Over the past few years, we’ve grown to a staff of 100+ talented individuals dispersed across the country and around the world. At THL, how animals are treated in the food system is at the forefront of our everyday work. As such, many of our staff are vegan by personal choice, and all of our THL-hosted events offer fully vegan menus. We welcome all mission-aligned candidates to apply, no matter where you are in your journey to end the abuse of animals raised for food.
YOUR OPPORTUNITY
THL’s Corporate Projects team is looking for an experienced project manager, communicator, and strategic thinker who can propose and test effective new strategies to advocate to a corporate audience for meaningful animal welfare reforms. As Corporate Projects Lead, you will join a team of high-impact advocates who engage with the country’s largest food companies on the most pressing issues affecting farmed animals. Your writing and communication expertise as well as your project management skills will underpin our Corporate Engagement work.
Your position plays a critical role in ensuring that THL can effectively engage with food companies about animal welfare, whether that be through the execution of new strategies, or the creation and management of educational websites, scientific reports, or other media. We want you because you know how to motivate audiences who might not think like you. You have experience managing multiple cross-departmental projects at once. You have a background in advocacy, communication, and strategic problem-solving. You can make decisions independently when faced with uncertainty and limited information. You’re ready to recognize corporations that make progress for animals and call out those that fail to stop cruel practices. This position reports directly to the Corporate Projects Manager.
This is a full-time, remote position. This position provides the opportunity for optional domestic and international travel, equivalent to approximately 1-3 trips per year, for week-long summits and retreats.
We are only able to consider applicants who reside in the United States and possess United States work authorization.
We will be holding a webinar on Wednesday, April 24th at 5:00pm PT/6:00pm MT/7:00pm CT/8:00pm ET for you to find out more about the role and ask any questions you may have. The webinar will be hosted by Michael Windsor, Senior Corporate Projects Manager and Dayne Alexander, Senior Corporate Research Lead. If you’re interested, please register here . As a webinar, you’ll only be able to see the presenter and not others watching. The webinar will be recorded and available here by Thursday, April 25th.
This position will close on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 at 1:00pm PDT/2:00pm MDT/3:00pm CDT/4:00pm EDT. Late applications will not be accepted; if you are experiencing technical issues, please contact careers@thehumaneleague.org prior to the deadline. Please submit applications and all supporting documents in English.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Invent, evaluate, develop, and project manage new and innovative strategies—from national reports and cross-departmental projects to individual tools—that will influence corporations and their top executives. Lead collaboration with various teams at THL to execute these strategies.
Author and design strategic resources such as newsletters, websites, case studies, advertisements, and reports to educate corporate executives about animal welfare issues. Collaborate with the Corporate Engagement team to plan the distribution of these materials.
Develop and maintain expertise on corporate communications and marketing strategies used within the food industry. Act as a subject matter expert on effective corporate messaging to other THL departments, volunteers, coalition groups, outside vendors, and other stakeholders; this requires frequent professional communication.
Understand and stay up to date on the broader industry landscape on animal welfare issues and the nuances of the individual animal welfare policies THL is requesting of companies.
Leverage a variety of digital tools and platforms, such as Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, and Salesforce, to keep data and information organized and accessible.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Experience: You have enough professional or non-professional experience with advocacy work (via nonprofit or political campaigns, grassroots activism, environmental or climate activism, or other forms of activism) to demonstrate that you have a strong understanding and detailed knowledge of how to effectively drive systems transformation. You have experience in project management that will allow you to plan and execute complex, cross-departmental projects.
Communication: You have compelling written and verbal communication skills, which will enable you to present THL’s message professionally and convincingly in reports, websites, and other content designed for high level executives and public audiences. In crafting communications, you take into consideration the differing motivations of executives, activists, and the general public.
Strategic thinking: The right approaches will come as a result of deeply comprehending THL’s goals as well as the motivations of corporations and the hurdles they are facing. When each choice is a strategic one, the impact of all judgments can increase. You take ownership of thinking critically about your projects. You thoughtfully vet the projects that you pursue, evaluating the risks, benefits, costs, and goals to make sure that you are making strategic choices that are in the best interest of THL.
Organization and long-term planning: Managing a large number of projects—many of which may have long-term strategies and implications for your own work—requires exemplary organizational skills, including effective cross-departmental project management skills, and daily use of Google Drive, online communication tools like Slack, spreadsheets, and project management software.
Self-motivation: This position requires the ability to set and manage your own schedule and to-do lists and carry them out in a timely, efficient manner to achieve as much as possible for animals in the limited amount of time that you have each day. You must be comfortable working both independently and as a part of a fully remote team. You have experience taking initiative in pursuing goals, managing your time effectively, and making decisions to move work forward with minimal oversight.
Collaboration: Although this position is highly independent, the success of this role relies on your ability to work cooperatively with team members, as well as other organizations and external stakeholders, and contribute to an inclusive, collaborative work environment. You bring a high level of emotional intelligence to collaborations.
Comfort with uncertainty and experimentation: Your success will depend on your ability to develop and evaluate novel, unproven tactics. Due to the nature of this work, you won’t often have direct external feedback on the effectiveness of your ideas. You will need to present arguments for or against new ideas and determine the metrics by which success can be measured.
Efficiency: You take advantage of the tools and resources available and work to accomplish more with less. You are able to successfully handle multiple tasks and projects at once, amidst multiple priorities.
Once your application has been reviewed, you will be notified via email with further details on the status of your application. If a candidate is moved forward, the interview process will be as follows:

About Resolution Project
At Resolution Project, we see the spark of passion in young people. We work with them to build it into a lifetime of impact. People do not need decades of experience before they can start making a difference in the world. Especially while young, they have the energy, idealism, and ambition to address complex challenges—today. But they need a community that invests and believes in their leadership. Resolution provides this support to young innovators around the world so they can break barriers and ignite meaningful change.
The Resolution Fellowship is the core of our work. To become a Resolution Fellow, young people first compete in our Social Venture Challenge (SVC), pitching ideas for social enterprises in their communities. Those who are selected become Fellows, receiving seed funding and lifelong support. Resolution is there, even if they evolve or pivot from their original ideas, with global resources, mentorship, expertise, and community, along with a growing network of local partners. These components come together to form a proven model that identifies promising young leaders, launches their first ventures, and sticks with them as they grow.
Since our beginning in 2008, Resolution Project has launched and supported the growth of over 600 Fellows, working across six continents and in over 80 countries. Altogether, our Fellows have impacted the lives of more than 4.6 million people around the globe. Through Resolution Project, young leaders receive unmatched guidance and wisdom from a team of partners, volunteers, and innovative peers around the globe. We remain committed—today and always— to all of our Fellows and to expanding our outreach to lower-resourced communities.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator will join a high-performing team to help ensure Resolution’s achievement of key objectives, specifically contributing to Resolution’s mission by supporting Resolution Fellows throughout the Fellowship lifecycle.
This is a new role working closely with both Assistant Directors of Programs to provide administrative support to Fellows as they onboard onto the program and facilitate access to venture-related, professional resources, opportunities, and educational engagement. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for key data management tasks and helping to draft content and resources for Resolution’s global audience. This staff member will both support ongoing projects in existing systems and have opportunities to build out new structures.
The candidate must have a flexible schedule, be prepared to join meetings and conference calls earlier and later than regular business hours – including some weekends – with appropriate compensation and/or schedule adjustments, and be willing to occasionally travel when it is safe to do so.
Key Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with professional staff, Fellows, and volunteers to support programmatic goals and organizational growth as follows:
Fellow Relations
Serve as a primary point of contact and support for Resolution Fellows.
Coordinate and run Fellow Orientation calls to help new Fellows acclimate to the program.

Provide logistical support for Resolution’s Accelerating Impact Challenge.

Event and Initiatives
Schedule office hours (accessible online meetings with Subject Matter Experts) with multiple corporate partners for Fellows alongside the Assistant Director of Programs.

Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Shellfish Researcher to provide support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest Fisheries Science Center in Seattle, WA. OAI is a Virginia corporation established in 2003 that provides consulting and technical services to the U.S. government, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and the private sector. We specialize in scientific program and project management, strategic planning, professional and technical services, and stakeholder engagement, supporting government contracts.
Background
There has been considerable research regarding the ecosystem effects of shellfish farming in temperate waters of the Atlantic and Pacific coast in recent years. This research includes interactions with submerged aquatic vegetation, fish and invertebrates and effects on water quality. In Washington state, there are over 250 shellfish farms across over 700 sites, most of which are located in Puget Sound.
A priority in Puget Sound is the conservation of nearshore habitat, including wetlands, submerged aquatic vegetation, estuaries, and tidal zones that make up some of the most valuable habitat for the region’s salmon and steelhead and overlap in some places with shellfish farming. Unfortunately, much of nearshore habitat in Puget Sound is lost or degraded, with more than 90 percent of tidal wetlands lost to development. That leaves salmon without essential nursery habitat they need to feed and grow strong to boost their later survival in the open ocean. This is especially concerning for Puget Sound Chinook salmon, which is listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
To help address this situation, NOAA Fisheries recently developed the Puget Sound Nearshore Habitat Conservation Calculator (Nearshore Calculator). The calculator can be used to determine how much restoration is needed to offset the impacts of nearshore development. The calculator determines changes in habitat value in a common currency that represents habitat impacts as debits, and habitat improvements as credits. Developers can then offset debits with an equivalent number of credits, avoiding further net loss of nearshore habitat. Credits may come from improvements undertaken as part of the same project or from improvements in other areas in the Puget Sound region.
NOAA Fisheries is in need of assistance to help consider additions to the Nearshore Calculator to account for ecosystem effects of shellfish aquaculture in Puget Sound, based on best available science.
Description
The employee will coordinate with the Northwest Fisheries Science Center and West Coast Region of Fisheries (Central Puget Sound Branch & Oregon/Washington Aquaculture Coordinator) to assist with the following key tasks:
Literature Review/Calculator learning: Compile and conduct an assessment of relevant literature to inform ecosystem effects of shellfish aquaculture. Assess relevance to shellfish aquaculture in the US portions of the Salish Sea including all five marine basins delineated as service areas for use with the Nearshore Calculator. Synthesize and communicate findings to scientific, management and industry audiences. Invest in in-depth learning of the nearshore calculator and Section 7(a)(2) of the Endangered Species Act, including how the calculator works, the underlying literature, data inputs, analytical approach and how it is applied to aquaculture projects. Deliverables are:Finalized list of literature and folders with PDF copies of each study. Summary files with annotations of key results and conclusions from each source. Tables, figures, presentation materials for presenting results to different audiences. Contribute to NWFSC teams that are working on related projects by participating in meetings, completing assignments, and contributing to products.
Gain Regional Expertise: When possible, conduct site visits to regional shellfish farms to gain an understanding of aquaculture practices. Take photos of gear and growing practices at each site, pending permission of the grower. When possible, join research teams in the field to promote awareness of ongoing research applications. Deliverables are:Library of photos taken at each site visit that document different types of shellfish growing practices and ongoing research.
Effects of Aquaculture: Using results from Task 1 and 2, evaluate how benefits/impacts from different aquaculture techniques affect Physical and Biological Features (PBFs) for salmon based on best available science. Evaluate if these benefits/impacts are generally included in the indicator effect pathways outlined in Ehinger et al 2023. Amend the indicator effect pathways description as appropriate for aquaculture. Detail if any relevant indicator effect pathways may not be included and how they could be added in an update. Deliverables are:List of benefits/impacts of shellfish aquaculture are generally included in the indicator effect pathway outline in Ehinger et al., 2023. Amend recommended indicator effect pathway description(s), as applicable. Recommend any relevant indicator effect pathways that may not be included, and how they could be added following the format and methodology in Ehingher et al. 2023.
Prototype Development: For aquaculture techniques for which the most relevant indicator effect pathways are considered in the Nearshore Calculator, evaluate if current tabs allow for appropriate quantification of impacts. For those applications, develop demonstration examples of how shellfish aquaculture activities that require federal permitting may be addressed by the Nearshore Calculator. Demonstration growing methods shall include shellfish on-bottom culture, flip bag culture, long-line culture, geoduck culture and co-culture with seaweed and infrastructure associated with shellfish culture, such as buoys, nearshore hardening/boat launches, etc. Deliverables are:For each demonstration example, develop a document that describes each proposed idea for integrating ecosystem effects into decision making tools. Provide supporting evidence (data, references) to justify each idea.
Draft Recommendations: Based on steps one through four, develop proposed additions/adjustments to the calculator for shellfish projects. Present draft recommendations for feedback from applicable Northwest Fisheries Science Center and West Coast Region of Fisheries staff. Deliverables are:Consult with NWFSC and WCR staff to solicit peer review of demonstration examples. Develop key questions for reviewers to address in the review process. Electronic copies of all peer review comments received.
Develop Guidance: Develop instructions to NOAA Fisheries Staff regarding how these adjustments to the calculator can be incorporated for use by NOAA staff, tribes, the public and other stakeholders. Deliverables are:Based on results of peer review, offer guidance on when and how to implement the recommended additions and adjustments. Guidance may be in one or more formats, including but not limited to in-person work sessions, webinars, small meetings, written documentation, etc.
Communication: Share results, conclusions, guidance with interested and relevant audiences, including relevant conferences and meetings. In collaboration with NOAA staff, provide an overview of findings for regional aquaculture and marine habitat teams, tribes, the public and other stakeholders. Develop a synthesis manuscript for publication in a peer reviewed journal that includes the literature review findings and relevant results regarding how this information might be used to inform management tools and calculators. Deliverables are:Communications products including but not limited to:Presentation files (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.) and presentations at relevant science and management meetings. Manuscript drafted for submission to peer reviewed journal that integrates literature review and application to management tools. Collaborative engagement with communications teams on webstory, newsletter and social media content, as applicable. Monthly progress report to include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following: accomplishments, issues encountered, travel (including purpose, significant outcomes, action items), and recommendations, if applicable.

Full time
Ocean Associates Inc.
The take-away
Ready to take on some of the most powerful forces in our society? We’re looking for a Major Gifts Organizer to join a fierce, smart team challenging global corporations, holding them accountable, and creating a world where all people can thrive.
Why you’ll love coming to work every day
You’ll help change the world by being part of fearless and winning campaigns . You’ll be joining an organization that’s not satisfied with the world as it is—and has a vision for how it should be. When your quest is ending corporate abuse, you can’t be afraid to name names and demand what the world needs. For more than 40 years, we’ve been exposing and challenging the abuses of the likes of Nestlé, Exxon Mobil, Philip Morris International, McDonald’s, and more. We don’t back down, and we run campaigns until we win.
You’ll work with awesome people . Join a team of passionate, kind, determined, optimistic, and solutions-oriented folks. We work hard, celebrate victories large and small, and always have each other’s backs.
You can take on big responsibilities as you go . You’ll thrive here as you develop new skills, tackle new challenges, learn, and grow. We pay lots of attention to building staff leadership, and we provide support and training to help you grow in your role.
You’ll be part of an organization committed to advancing racial equity and transforming systems of oppression . We are deeply committed to prioritizing the leadership of people who bear the brunt of corporate abuse: Black and Indigenous people and other people of color, women, low-income people, people in the Global South, and LGBTQ+ folks around the world. Our unique culture has been fostered by a long history of women at the helm. We are actively focusing on the leadership of our staff of color, knowing we are stronger when the organization reflects the vision of the world we’re building together.
What you’ll do
Corporate Accountability is at an exciting moment in our four-decade history: We’re running hard-hitting, world-changing campaigns that are advancing the human right to water, holding the Big Polluters driving the global climate crisis accountable, and stopping Big Tobacco and the fast food industry from devastating people’s health. We’re challenging the racist systems that fuel corporate power, and reclaiming democracy from their corruptive influences with our Black Collective, Movement Power and grantmaking programs. And we know that people taking action together is the way to stopping these abuses. Corporate Accountability’s success comes from the people who fuel our resources and make our campaign impact possible. That’s where you come in.
Our campaigns are driven by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Your job will be to organize the committed, inspiring members at the heart of Corporate Accountability to give more boldly and more deeply than they ever thought possible and bring new people in to join us as well. You will build relationships with the people who power our campaigns and help them understand and act on the impact they can have toward building a world rooted in justice. You will organize events throughout the year to engage our members and build relationships with those who haven’t given before. You’ll build an in-depth expertise on our issue areas and campaigns, and be ready to speak at the drop of a hat to the problems our world faces and the people powering the solutions.
You’ll do it all with the expertise of a decades-strong campaign organization known for its ability to build and maintain people power over the long haul. You’ll be trained, motivated, and inspired by a team of organizers that sees injustice in the world and knows the only way to solve it is to talk to one person at a time. And in doing so, you’ll bring hope to people around the country who believe a better world is possible and are just waiting for you to ask them to get involved.
Who you are
The rampant abuses of corporations and the outrageous amount of power they have makes you mad as hell -- and you want to do something about it.
You have a commitment to advancing racial equity and ending systems of oppression, and are ready to do this in your day-to-day work. You understand that campaigning for justice must include working to dismantle white supremacy, institutional racism, legacies of colonialism, and anti-Blackness.
You passionately believe that relationship-based organizing is how we change the world—and you’ve got the relationship-building and interpersonal communication skills to prove it. Whether in person, on the phone, virtually, or through written communications, you make connections and build and maintain relationships for the long term. You are particularly skilled at building relationships across race, language, cultural, and gender differences. You’re a stellar active listener, adept at responding to nonverbal and verbal cues, and can quickly adjust your communication style to what works best for the context.
You have asked people for money to help achieve their vision of a more just world. And you’re excited to learn from Corporate Accountability’s decades of experience of a people-powered organizing and fundraising approach. You believe that asking for and giving money are both powerful acts of social change and are committed to resourcing long-term effective campaigning.
You can easily adapt and shift when conditions change or opportunities arise. You view unexpected situations as a chance to come up with creative solutions that might be even better than the original plan. And you’re ready to move forward with new pathways to challenges that come up when heading towards your goals.
You care about the details. You are ready to make connections between the threads you hear in a conversation in order to remember them for the next time you’re in touch. Whether it’s tracking folks' gift commitments to noticing a wrong address in our database, you’re organized and accurate in keeping records.
You know who you are and what you need to bring your best self forward and do your best work in an independent setting. You’re always learning, reflecting, and integrating what you learn to keep yourself motivated and on track towards your goals. You are comfortable getting feedback from others and applying it into how you approach and practice your work.
You are excited to travel to cities and metro-areas across the U.S. as a part of your role. You are ready to travel 5-8 times a year for house parties or fundraising events, in-person meetings with donors, and/or donor network gatherings. Our current approach to travel is staff-led, meaning we will continue to center the health and safety of our staff in these decisions.
You have 1-3 years of experience in fundraising, organizing, campaigning or other relevant fields.
What you’ll be responsible for in the day-to-day

Maintain a portfolio of donors of around 75 donors, engaging them to take action that furthers our campaign areas and working alongside members to make an impact towards a more just world. You’ll be connecting with folks over the phone, via email, by video meetings, and sometimes in person.
Drive the effective cultivation and stewardship of our members: Through deep relationship-building, inspire them to get involved in ways ranging from increasing their giving to bringing in new people to taking high-level action to advance our campaigns. This might look like having deep one-on-one conversations with members to increase their engagement, selecting campaign updates to share based on your knowledge of their values and vision, or thanking a brand new donor for joining our work.
Help bring on new members, leading engagement with people who are interested in our mission at events or virtually. Maintain relationships with potential donors, engaging them in our campaigns. Work with the entire fundraising team to implement strategic tactics for meeting new people which could include hosting events in-person, webinars, etc.
Ensure solid record keeping on your conversations and key notes from your members to carry our relationships forward in our Salesforce donor database and systems with our financial team.
Collaborate within our team and with other units to help ensure we have what we need to fundraise. This could look like reaching out to the campaigns team for the latest updates, working with communications on materials, or giving input on systems that support our team to evolve them as we go.
Travel 5-8 times a year for membership cultivation, meeting with members in our membership base and donors in your portfolio.
Actively participate in organization-wide planning, fundraising, racial equity work, recruitment, and campaign activities.

Full time
350.org is looking for a Head of Regions to join our team of dedicated individuals who will support the overall strategic direction of 350, and build an organizational culture, values as well as practices that are rooted in justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI).
About 350.org
350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world. The values that guide and drive our work are listed here.
350.org is an equal-opportunity employer. 350.org strives to be an inclusive and collaborative group of people who bring a variety of approaches to the work we do. We’re committed to the principles of j ustice, and we try to build a safe workplace where everyone is treated fairly and enjoys working together. We value new perspectives, ideas of all sorts, and different ways of working. Diverse perspectives and experiences improve the way 350.org carries out our work – including what we decide to work on and how creatively/effectively we do that. We do our best to make staff positions accessible to all potential team members, regardless of race, national origin, ethnicity, age, disability, assigned gender, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation or identity, religion or creed, veteran status, marital or parental status, and genetic information. We also strive to include team members in communities most impacted by climate change or impacted by other kinds of environmental, social, and economic injustice.

The Head of Regions will be responsible for overseeing 350.org’s programmatic work in Asia, Pacific, Africa, North America, Europe and Latin America regions. This includes the development of strategies focused on regional campaigns, organizing, mobilization and movement support to achieve 350 Global Strategic Goals, as well as making sure that regional contexts and voices are elevated at the global level.

Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) is seeking applicants to provide Fish Health Lab support to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC), Newport Research Station in Newport, OR. We are seeking applicants for this position prospectively, which is dependent on award of contract.
Background
The Environmental and Fisheries Sciences (EFS) Division performs research that addresses the influence of factors such as vaccines, dietary supplements, temperature, and contaminants on disease and predation of fish. This research addresses and supports NOAA Fisheries and NWFSC research agendas, including: presidential executive order, EO#13921 Promoting American Seafood Competitiveness and Economic Growth; National Strategic Plan for Aquaculture Research’s Objective 3.1 to “Develop strategies to protect the health and well-being of aquaculture species”; and NWFSC’s 5–10 Year Strategic Plan for Aquaculture Science’s recommendation to support finfish aquaculture and bolster aquatic animal disease research and expertise.
The development of finfish aquaculture relies on the rearing of healthy fish. Disease occurs during commercial culture, wasting valuable time, resources, and products. Disease management issues will only increase as global temperatures and demand for aquaculture products increase. The EFS Division conducts research in the areas of aquatic animal health and disease in order to assess and minimize the impact of diseases on both important cultured and wild species. These areas of research are important to the Center’s research programs with finfish and shellfish aquaculture as well as characterizing disease interactions between and among both wild and cultured species. Disease of aquatic species can severely impact the health of both cultured and wild aquatic species at various life stages.
Description
Conduct both basic and applied research in the areas of aquatic animal health and disease in order to assess the impact of stressors and mitigating treatments on both cultured and wild aquatic species. These topics are important to the Center’s various aquaculture research involving finfish and shellfish, as well as to characterizing environmental interactions between, and among, wild and cultured aquatic species.
Tasks
The employee will perform the following key tasks:
Task 1 Husbandry of multiple aquatic species
The employee shall perform husbandry for aquatic species (e.g., salmon, sablefish) reared and held at the laboratory facility. Required husbandry practices shall include cleaning tanks and troughs, changing filters, feeding aquatic species, moving and distributing aquatic species, monitoring growth of aquatic species and adjusting feeds and densities as needed, measuring water quality parameters, monitoring and maintaining system processes (e.g., heaters, chillers, pumps, filters) in order to produce healthy finfish and shellfish.
Task 2 Laboratory organization and operation
Properly organize the laboratories, noting when supplies and resources need re-stocking, and maintaining needed safety and chemical hygiene practices.
The employee shall maintain and organize laboratories, which includes having labs: with properly maintained and operational laboratory equipment; in compliance with the Center’s safe chemical hygiene practices, updated online chemical database, and properly labeled chemicals; and with personnel and equipment adhering to laboratory safety practices. The employee will assist property manager and purchasing agent with laboratory and office property inventory, and consumables requests in order to maintain NOAA property records and ensure that labs are stocked with general and assay-specific consumable supplies.
Task 3 Pathogen challenge
The employee shall participate in determining and analyzing pathogen challenges of fish, which includes culturing pathogens of fish/shellfish in agar and broth media, characterizing the pathogen using a variety of techniques (e.g. media culture, spectrophotometer, PCR) and properly storing frozen bacterial stock for later experiments.
The employee shall expose fish/shellfish to pathogens, collect samples by necropsy, collect mortalities, record data, and analyze results using established laboratory protocols in R Studio.
The employee shall monitor mortalities over time. Autoclave waste at the end of experiments.
Task 4 Assistance with laboratory experiments
The employee shall assist in method optimization and utilization of various assays in order to evaluate factors that may alter aquatic species health. Optimizing methods may include determining and obtaining experimental baselines for positive and negative controls, and range-finding of appropriate treatment levels in pilot studies. Method utilization involves applying assays in larger scale experiments using live aquatic species, tissues, and/or factors that may affect their health, e.g., stressors, pathogens, vaccines, feed additives. Assays can include the use of specialized equipment, such as spectrophotometer, video cameras, distillation glassware apparatus, microplate readers, etc.
The employee shall construct graphs and tables of associated data using standard desktop graphics packages for use in reports, presentations at meetings, and conferences, and for preparation of peer reviewed publications. The contractor shall be responsible for scientific writing and editing of sections of annual reports and peer-reviewed publications with staff scientists.
Start Date: Start date is contingent on award of contract.
Location: NOAA/NMFS/NWFSC, Newport Research Station, Newport, OR
Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary, commensurate with experience, between $30-40/hr.

Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) is seeking applicants for a full-time position to provide Management Strategy Evaluation support to the Ecosystem Dynamics and Assessment Branch of the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, within NOAA Fisheries. OAI is a Virginia corporation established in 2003 that provides consulting and technical services to the U.S. government, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and the private sector. We specialize in scientific program and project management, strategic planning, professional and technical services and stakeholder engagement, supporting government contracts.
Background
NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is responsible for the conservation and management of our Nation’s living marine resources and their habitats. By developing high quality science and supporting an ecosystem-based approach to management, NMFS provides important services to the Nation, including sustainable fisheries, healthy ecosystems, safe seafood, and protected species recovery.
The U.S. leads the world in sustainable fisheries management; as a result, U.S. fisheries are highly valuable and make large contributions to the U.S. economy. Under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA), NMFS works with the eight regional Fishery Management Councils (FMCs) to provide scientific advice on the ~500 federally-managed fish stocks. NMFS stock assessments and other science products are critically important to sustainable fisheries management for assessing the status of fish stocks and predicting future harvest levels, setting sustainable catch limits, and reducing bycatch.
NMFS recently codified its commitment to Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management (EBFM) with the release of their EBFM policy and subsequent EBFM Roadmap. The EBFM Policy establishes a framework of guiding principles to “enhance and accelerate the implementation of EBFM within NOAA Fisheries, and in cooperation with NOAA Fisheries partners.” These guiding principles are: implement ecosystem-level planning, advancing our understanding of ecosystem processes, prioritizing vulnerabilities and risk of ecosystems and their components, explore and address trade-offs within an ecosystem, incorporate ecosystem considerations into management advice, and maintain resilient ecosystems.
The Ecosystem Dynamics and Assessment Branch (EDAB) conducts a research program focused on developing ecosystem-level knowledge and advice to support informed decision-making. Research conducted by the Branch encompasses climate science, ecology, process-oriented ecosystem research, and marine population dynamics and ecosystem modeling.
The Branch is responsible for conducting analyses of the effects of natural and anthropogenic pressures on the Northeast U.S. Continental Shelf Large Marine Ecosystem (NES LME). EDAB also develops and applies ecosystem and statistical models to synthesize information on climate, oceanographic, and human-related pressures. These products are provided to a variety of entities to inform decision-making and to support the implementation of regional and national EBFM. These entities include NOAA, other federal and state agencies, Regional Fishery Management Councils (hereafter, Councils), Marine Fisheries Commissions, research colleagues, nongovernmental organizations, national and international treaty organizations in which the U.S. participates, and the fishing industry (both commercial and recreational).
The functions of EDAB are divided into four (4) focal areas: ecosystem reporting; ecosystem and statistical modeling; climate and habitat modeling and remote sensing; and Management Strategy Evaluation. This position will focus on Management Strategy Evaluation. The Branch supports the application of Management Strategy Evaluation (MSE), a stakeholder driven process that allows various management procedures to be tested in silico before implementation. This includes the use of analytical tools developed as part of the ecosystem and statistical modeling focal area. The Branch provides technical expertise to management entities, such as a Regional Fishery Management Council, in order to conduct an MSE. A typical application of an MSE consists of using an operating model or set of models that incorporate sufficient complexity to simulate variability in a state process (e.g., fish population, ecosystem or economic dynamics) along with an estimation model to perform a simulated analysis based on virtual data collection. The results of the estimation model are fed back into the operating model based on predetermined management procedures. In this way, performance of alternative management strategies can then be examined across a suite of pre-specified objectives. Stakeholder engagement is critical to clarify objectives and performance metrics, parameterize the human component of the system, and to ensure investment in the process.
Tasks:
Provide technical support during a Management Strategy Evaluation (MSE) (often under tight time constraints) for models developed under Ecosystem and Statistical Modeling Development focal area.Collaborate broadly with NEFSC, Clients, and others as applicable to strategize and prioritize tasks. Coordinate acquisition, formatting, and data quality checking of new information identified by stakeholders and required for MSE model development. Identify and prioritize software in need of updates and maintenance. Update and/or work with software developers to ensure model tools meet MSE needs.
Assist with planning and logistics of program and project team meetings/workshops and help develop agendas, written documents, meeting minutes, presentation, or other materials as required.
Support communications and outreach activities.Provide written contributions to outreach products, including responses to questions, reports, scientific documents, and web-based communication for audiences both within and external to NMFS. Communicate the results of projects and activities to general and scientific audiences in written and oral formats.
Organize and participate in symposia at national and international conferences and workshops.
Start Date: ASAP. With federal onboarding procedures likely after July 1st.
Location: On site at one of the NEFSC Laboratories in Woods Hole, MA or Narragansett, RI is preferred. Fully remote with in the region may be possible. The expectation is to commute to the office 1-2 times per month, and for important meetings.
Travel: Domestic and international travel may be required as follows: attendance at regional fishery management council meetings, project-related workshops and working group meetings, and presentations at scientific conferences.
Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position. Wage range is $28-31/hr. Overtime is not anticipated. Comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with two (2) to three (3) years’ experience (directly related to the individual requirement) in marine science, fisheries, quantitative ecology, oceanography, or similar.
Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders (fishing industry, recreational interests, environmental NGOs, managers, interested public) during public workshops and meetings.
Knowledge and/or experience with R statistical software. Other software such as python, SAS, MATLAB, and others are also beneficial.
Experience and understanding of code versioning software, such as Git, SVN, mercurial, and others.
Experience in linking existing oceanographic and ecological models or ecological and economic models together is highly desirable.
Knowledge and/or experience with population modeling.
Familiarity with how stock assessments work.Understand the inputs/outputs of assessment models and how the environment/ecosystem can influence stock processes.
Demonstrated proficiency for the following skill sets:Project management for complex and technical scientific programs
Coordinating and leading diverse project teams to develop, improve, and achieve project goals Communication both verbally and using written materials (including visual presentations) with a variety of audiences including technical, scientific, and the general public Independent worker with strong time management skills Adaptability to quickly changing priorities and strict timelines Attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively in a team/group setting.
Ability to receive constructive feedback and implement appropriate action.

We are seeking candidates for this work prospectively, which is dependent on award of contract.
Background
The Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) for the Fisheries Division under the Pacific Island Region is required to maintain a Vessel Monitoring System, or VMS, which tracks vessels in a similar way to AIS, but has historically been restricted to government regulators or other fisheries authorities. Several countries have released their VMS publicly on the Global Fishing Watch map. VMS systems broadcast positions are set intervals and some systems allow operators to increase transmission frequency when needed. Some vessels broadcast both AIS and VMS so information from both systems can be combined to give a higher resolution vessel track. This is required to assist the OLE staff with managing administrative activities which are focused primarily on Investigative Support. Internal administrative support will also be required to ensure organizational excellence and safety. The employee will be required perform all duties necessary for administrative support, which includes tasks such as answering phones, maintaining files, and distributing information, while assisting with daily tasks, such as updating and organizing files, preparing documents, spreadsheets, forms and running reports.
Description
Key tasks include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Receive and route incoming phone calls.
Monitor and respond to work-related email (Gmail), chat (Google chat), and calendar (Google calendar) tasks or queries. Update and maintain office’s VMS dashboard (semi-automated Google sheets), enter data in sheets as new updates arrive (typically via email) and periodically upload new spreadsheets to replace outdated sheets in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Generate on-demand or recurring reports in law-enforcement and/or VMS databases in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs).Note: SQL or other advanced database skills or tasks are NOT required for this position. All database tasks required (basic searches, report generation, etc.) will be performed using basic plain text, date or numbers in simple, user-friendly graphic-user-interface (“GUI”) law-enforcement-related or VMS software applications.
Perform data entry to process case packages in the law enforcement system in accordance with local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and online case-processing manual.
Assist (approximately once per two weeks, and normally with another individual) with the collection of sample audits of VMS-related obligations for compliance, in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs). Note: this is just a visual check of the vessel location at dock compared to the location (text data) reported in VMS.
Enter text and date data related to “VMS audits” into an online (website) interface in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Enter provided data into template documents and send the completed documents or forms to appropriate office(s) via email in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Utilizing provided data in a data-entry software interface, complete Investigative Support or VMS-related requisition forms, and route them via email to appropriate point(s) of contact, in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Start Date: TBD
Location: Honolulu, HI
Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary, commensurate with experience. Wage range is $23-30/hr.

The take-away
Ready to take on some of the most powerful forces in our society? We’re looking for a Membership Organizer to join a fierce, smart team challenging global corporations, holding them accountable, and creating a world where all people can thrive.
Why you’ll love coming to work every day
You’ll help change the world by being part of fearless and winning campaigns.
You can take on big responsibilities as you go. You’ll thrive here as you develop new skills, tackle new challenges, learn, and grow. We pay lots of attention to building staff leadership, and we provide support and training to help you grow in your role.
You’ll be part of an organization committed to advancing racial equity and transforming systems of oppression.
What you’ll do
Corporate Accountability’s impact starts with our monthly donors—and you will be working closely with them to help realize all of the power they bring to this movement.
Corporate Accountability is a member powered organization and has been for more than four decades. It’s one of our greatest strengths because our members give us the political independence we need to wage hard-hitting campaigns that challenge deep-rooted power structures. And monthly donors are the backbone of this membership support. Their regular contribution provides financial stability so we can create long-term, strategic campaign plans and the ability to react quickly when things change.
Your job will be to grow and deepen relationships with our members while innovating and expanding the ways we fundraise monthly gifts. You will use your creativity, your people skills, and your digital skills to broaden our fundraising tactics to increase membership from young folks and members of the global majority. You’ll play an important role in the team that’s advancing racial justice and equity through organizing with our members. And, you’ll work with members to take action and create activist leadership opportunities that challenge corporate power and systemic racism, and advances our campaigns.
Who you are
The rampant abuses of corporations and the outrageous amount of power they have makes you mad as hell—and you want to do something about it.
You have a commitment to advancing racial equity and ending systems of oppression, and are ready to do this in your day-to-day work. You understand that campaigning for justice must include working to dismantle white supremacy, institutional racism, legacies of colonialism, and anti-Blackness.
You know how to ask people for money and you are skilled at moving people to financially support work that helps them achieve their vision of the world. You believe activating more people to fund long-term, effective campaigning is essential. You’re enthusiastic about doing so because you know that asking for and giving money are both powerful acts of social change.
You passionately believe that relationship-based organizing is how we change the world—and you have the experience, relationship-building, and interpersonal communication skills to turn your passion into action. Whether it’s on climate, racial, economic, gender, or other social justice issues, you have experience successfully working across lines of difference in a U.S. context to mobilize and activate diverse groups of people toward a shared goal and vision. You know how to build relationships with trust and integrity, respecting people’s inherent power, agency, and ability to create change. And you are a stellar active listener.
You’re a problem-solver and solutions-oriented. You’re able to come up with a range of creative and innovative solutions when things don’t go quite as planned, especially when it comes to digital fundraising. You know how to analyze the situation, get the information you need, and propose solutions to solve fundraising needs.
You are good with technology and troubleshooting. Most likely you’re the one your grandma/uncle/colleagues/friends call when they’re confused with a new digital platform. And you love to help them figure it out, big or small. You’re patient and a good trainer. Plus, you’re an early adopter and eager to test out and learn new apps and systems whenever you can.
You are willing to travel 3-6 times per year across the Northeast for house parties and member engagement. Our current approach to travel is staff-led, meaning we will continue to center the health and safety of our staff in these decisions.
You have 1-3 years of experience in fundraising, organizing, campaigning, nonprofits or other relevant fields.
What you’ll be responsible for in the day-to-day
Fundraise monthly gifts from new, prospective, and current members. You will use a number of fundraising tactics including peer-to-peer fundraising, in-person events and parties, converting digital-recruited leads to monthly pledgers, and ongoing fundraising phoning.
Innovate monthly giving fundraising tactics with focus towards a growing digital fundraising landscape and increasing our feedback loop from young members and members of the global majority.
Seize opportunities to move members to action and activist leadership that furthers our campaign areas and shows members the impact they are making in the world with us. You’ll be responsible for supporting member cultivation tactics: from new member welcome outreach to activist onboarding, you’ll be there to support members each step of the way.
Coordinate closely with the Senior Membership Manager regarding timing and expected income generated from the monthly giving growth tactics you’re innovatively implementing.
Lead all-staff fundraising teams that are primarily geared toward growing the monthly giving program.
Participate in the member and activist base building working group and bring forward new ideas to make our efforts to expand and cultivate our membership base more racially equitable.
Identify any high dollar leads in our general member base for the major gifts team.
Actively participate in organization-wide planning, fundraising, racial equity work, recruitment, and campaign activities.

Salary range: $60,000 - $63,495 commensurate with experience.

Our core hours are 10 am - 4 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with flexibility to determine your remaining hours of the week in coordination with your supervisor and team. Given the nature of fundraising work, rapid response moments, and member house parties, there will be instances where you would need to be available outside of our standard business hours.
Our comprehensive benefit package includes: health insurance (with 90% of the premium for all tiers covered by the organization) and dental coverage (with 100% of the individual premium covered by the organization and the option to add dependents at an additional cost); FSA for transit, health care, and dependent care; and 401(k) with employer match.
Generous time off policies including one month of personal vacation time, one week of an office closure for collective rest, holidays, and unlimited wellness days to prioritize health.
Both internal and external training and leadership development opportunities.
Energetic, collaborative, and social campaign environment.
Location:
Remote, Northeast based position with the option to work hybrid, or eventually transition into our campaign headquarters in downtown Boston, MA. We follow strict COVID-19 safety measures and prioritize the health and safety of all staff, especially those with roles coming into headquarters in-person.
We are looking for great candidates from a wide range of backgrounds. If you don’t exactly fit the job description, but you know you have skills and experiences that are transferable to this position, please apply! Tell us about yourself and why you should be our next Membership Organizer.
To apply: Visit www.corporateaccountability.org/employment-opportunities. Attach your résumé to the online application and include a cover letter. Please include where you heard about the position. Full time
The take-away
Ready to take on some of the most powerful forces in our society? We’re looking for a Membership Organizer to join a fierce, smart team challenging global corporations, holding them accountable, and creating a world where all people can thrive.
Why you’ll love coming to work every day
You’ll help change the world by being part of fearless and winning campaigns.
What you’ll do
Corporate Accountability’s impact starts with our monthly donors—and you will be working closely with them to help realize all of the power they bring to this movement.

Ocean Associates Inc.
Telework near Narragansett RI or Woods Hole MA
Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) is seeking applicants for a full-time position to provide ecosystem reporting support to the Ecosystem Dynamics and Assessment Branch of the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, within NOAA Fisheries. OAI is a Virginia corporation established in 2003 that provides consulting and technical services to the U.S. government, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and the private sector. We specialize in scientific program and project management, strategic planning, professional and technical services and stakeholder engagement, supporting government contracts.
Description:
One of the focal areas of EDAB is Ecosystem Reporting where this position will be focused. The Branch develops several documents reporting ecosystem status and trends (e.g., State of the Ecosystem reports for the two regional councils, Ecosystem Status Report, Current Conditions, Ecosystem Context for Stock Advice, and others). These documents provide climate, environmental, and ecosystem considerations targeted to specific audiences to support individual stock advice, specification setting, and as general communication tools to the general public. Collectively, these documents serve as the backbone of Integrated Ecosystem Assessments (IEAs). The reports describe environmental, social, and economic states and their potential impacts on commercially important fish species, protected species, and the NES LME. These synthesis products are important in supporting ecosystem-level advice critical to NMFS, Councils, stakeholders, and other decision-makers.
Data used in ecosystem reporting incorporates a wide range of disciplines. These reports typically contain climate and oceanographic information such as global climate and regional model outputs, satellite sea surface temperature and ocean color data, as well as observations from ongoing hydrographic and plankton surveys. They also contain relevant data from other fisheries independent and dependent sources such as fish and protected species surveys, and commercial landings data. Ecosystem reporting also attempts to capture human dimensions through social and economic data related to Northeast U.S. Coastal communities.
Additionally, the Branch supports a defined process for evaluating and operationalizing new analyses and data for inclusion in ecosystem reporting products to improve generality, accessibility, testing, documentation, and best practices.
Tasks:
The task includes the following:
Coordinate and facilitate implementation of ecosystem reporting projects.Organize and facilitate workshops as needed.
Assist with planning and logistics of program and project team meetings/workshops and help develop agendas, written documents, meeting minutes, presentations, or other materials as required.
Assist with ecosystem data processing and analyses to support the development of ongoing and new ecosystem reporting products.
Assist with the development and maintenance of automated procedures to improve efficiency throughout the ecosystem reporting process (e.g., data collection and processing, report generation, metadata collection).
Assist with the development and maintenance of web interfaces for disseminating ecosystem data and reports.
Ensure adherence to NOAA data policies and Public Access to Research Results guidance.
Prioritize and organize implementation of recommendations from Clients (i.e., Regional Fishery Management Organizations).
Interface between the Information Technology Division (NEFSC/ITD), Clients, and other users to assess needs and develop requirements.
