These six positions are full-time, limited-duration, classified positions and are represented by a union.

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP) Section in Portland, OR is recruiting for six (6) COVID-19 Epidemiologists to coordinate surveillance and conduct epidemiologic studies for the COVID-19 pandemic. We work with local health departments, other states and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent and control communicable diseases and outbreaks of acute diseases in Oregon.

What will you do?

As a COVID-19 Epidemiologist, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinating outbreak investigations, conducting data analyses, and assisting with special studies.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data and presenting study findings to study collaborators, local and tribal health authorities, the funding agency, clinicians, and the general public.
  • Providing consultation to other ACDP epidemiologists and local health department staff assisting in outbreak investigations.
  • Analyzing data to answer epidemiologic questions, displaying data in graphs and tables, and summarizing data from a variety of sources, including reportable disease, hospital reporting, and syndromic surveillance.
  • Producing reports on COVID activity and disseminating information to local health departments, OHA and other state agencies, hospitals, laboratories, and interested providers.
  • Serving on the Incident Management Team (IMT) in the health intelligence, epidemiologic studies, outbreak investigations, or planning

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum requirements: A master's degree in public health or epidemiology or a related field AND three years of epidemiological or public health experience in communicable disease of which one year must have been in a clinical epidemiological capacity OR a bachelor’s degree in public health or epidemiology or a related field AND four years of epidemiological or public health experience in communicable disease of which one year must have been in a clinical epidemiological capacity
  • Master’s degree in public health or epidemiology preferred.
  • Experience applying epidemiologic principles and coordinating surveillance systems in infectious diseases.
  • Clinical background desirable.
  • Public health informatics background desirable.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software.
  • Experience monitoring data collection and data entry to assure quality.
  • Experience evaluating epidemiologic data to develop valid interpretations of the data.
  • Experience writing scientific reports and preparing graphic summaries of surveillance data.
  • Experience planning outbreak investigations and other epidemiologic studies.
  • Experience providing technical consultation to local health department staff and other agency personnel.
  • Experience presenting scientific data verbally in understandable terms.
  • Experience promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
