Job Summary
Building Safety Division within the Community Development Department seeks to fill (2) two vacancies on their team. Currently, they would like to hire a Plans Examiner and a Senior Plans Examiner. Our team consists of a Residential team and a Commercial team who receive general guidance from the Lead Plans Examiner, and report to the Plans Examiner Structural Engineer.
The Building Plans Examiners are responsible for examining either residential and light commercial building plans to assure that plans, construction, and materials conform to local zoning, building, fire, plumbing, and mechanical codes. They work very closely with the builders and contractors, assist in answering questions in the Permit Center, and work with Building Inspectors.
The hiring manager would like to begin the first review on 6/27/2020.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Qualifications for the Plans Examiner:
(Pay Range $30.50-$37.20)
Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction, Building Inspection Technology, Architecture, or a related field
2 (two) years of construction related experience
OR any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities required to perform the work
Must possess, or have ability to obtain a valid driver's license at the time of hire.
Must possess at least (1) ONE the following certifications through ICC or other approved organizations upon hire or promotion to the position: Building Plans Examiner; Mechanical Plans Examiner; Plumbing Plans Examiner; Residential Plans Examiner; Fire Plans Examiner (Must obtain a minimum of one additional certification from the list above within 1 year of appointment to the position)
Qualifications for the Senior Plans Examiner:
(Pay Range $31.50-$38.37)
Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction, Building Inspection Technology, Architecture, or a related field
2 (two) years of construction related experience
OR any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities required to perform the work
Must possess, or have ability to obtain a valid driver's license at the time of hire.
Must possess Fire Plans Examiner certification AND at least (2) two of the following certifications through ICC or other approved organizations upon hire or promotion to the position: Building Plans Examiner; Mechanical Plans Examiner; Plumbing Plans Examiner; Residential Plans Examiner; (Must obtain a minimum of one additional certification from the list above within 1 year of appointment to the position)

Salary Grade: Local 307.403 ($30.55 – $37.20) per hour
