Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is looking for a high performing compassionate Registered Nurse who is seeking an opportunity to direct and manage the delivery of health care services provided to the individuals of our Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois. The Director of Nursing serves as an integral member of our leadership team helping to fulfill our commitment to excellent individual care and Treatment. The Shapiro Center strives to provide equitable access to social/human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.
Job Responsibilities
Serves as Director of Nursing. Manages, plans, directs and organizes the functions of the Center’s Nursing Services.
Serves as full-line supervisor.
Assists the Regional Executive Director in managing and directing the health care services for the Center.
Recommends to the Regional Executive Director the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Develops in-service education programs for professional and paraprofessional nursing staff.
Develops budget and staffing plans for review by the Regional Executive Director and Center Director.
Conducts unannounced inspections of the grounds, buildings, offices and living units to determine cleanliness, compliance to policies and procedures, drug security measures and certification standards during and after business hours and on holidays/weekends.
Conducts staff meetings with both subordinate managers and other subordinate staff to discuss new policies and procedures.
Provides active nursing care to individuals.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in nursing.
Requires prior experience equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) years of professional experience supervising paraprofessional and professional nursing staff, assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff and preparing and signing performance evaluations.
Three (3) years of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments to improve the quality of care delivered to individuals.
Three (3) years of professional experience directing and managing the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a nursing services program for a public or private organization to ensure that all individuals care is done in a complete, effective, proper and timely manner.
Three (3) years of professional experience providing advice and guidance regarding the most difficult nursing issues.
Two (2) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to latest trends and nursing standards.
Two (2) years of professional experience developing budget and staffing plans for a public or private organization.
One (1) year of basic proficiency in the use of office equipment, including personal computers and basic computer skills.

Hawkeye Community College is looking for Nurses who are interested in part-time teaching assignments to join their team. Classes may be held during days, evenings, and/or weekends and may be at various sites and in various formats. Individuals will plan and guide the learning processes for students toward the achievement of curricular goals and objectives as identified and documented in course outline materials. Other responsibilities include employing instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting objectives: assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis according to department policies and procedures: and providing progress reports (evaluations and grades/certificates) as required.
Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Implements Hawkeye’s mission, vision, program outcomes and course objectives through clinical teaching, maintaining positive relationships with our clinical partners.
Orients and maintains current knowledge related to facilities policies and procedures.
Keeps the course coordinator informed of all student and agency issues and concerns.
Works with college administration, staff and other faculty members to improve the overall operation of the college and student success rates.
Serves as a professional role model for other faculty, staff, and students in the area of customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, dress, attendance, and general professionalism.
Evaluates weekly assignments in a timely manner. Provides feedback to student on level of performance based on course objectives.
Adheres to applicable regulatory rules and standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse and two years of full-time or equivalent part-time hours as a nurse OR a Licensed Practical Nursing two years of nursing experience in a long-term care facility.
Associate degree in nursing acceptable for Certified Nurse Aide lecture
Possess a current, unencumbered license in Iowa or Iowa eligible.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, staff and faculty.
Have passion for nursing, education, and lifelong learning.
Current Certification in:
Basic Life Support
HIPAA (or willing to obtain after hired)
Bloodborne Pathogens (or willing to obtain after hired)
Mandatory Reporter (or willing to obtain after hired)
16-hour Nurse Aide Train the Trainer (or willing to obtain after hired)
Preferred Qualifications
Four years or more of professional experience in a Long-term Care Center.
Employment Status

Working Conditions
Requires skills for succeeding in a classroom and/or clinical environment, using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Work is performed in a classroom, lab, and/or clinical setting. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computer.

Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), a maternal and early childhood home visiting program, fosters long-term success for first-time parents, their babies, and society. Nurse-Family Partnership's maternal health program introduces vulnerable first-time parents to registered nurses. This program allows nurses to deliver the support first-time parents need to have a healthy pregnancy, become knowledgeable and informed parents, and provide their babies with the best possible start in life. Nurse-Family Partnership has demonstrated statistically that this research-based program significantly improves critical outcomes for at-risk women and their children who receive services in local communities. Beginning with nurse home visits that occur during pregnancy and continue until the child is age two, Nurse Home Visitors provide coaching and care to first-time expectant mothers. The nurse develops therapeutic relationships and utilizes concepts of reflection and motivational interviewing with women and their families in a home visiting environment modeling client-centered, strengths-based, and solution-focused approaches. Ensures appropriate documentation, protecting private information, and timely/accurate data input to the NFP information management system (MIS) and utilizes web-based reports and other reports available through NFP.
Participates in review and evaluation of the MIS reports identifying achievements and areas for improvement. Engages in quality improvement efforts.
Community Relations
Participates in community coalition on behalf of NFP and promotes public awareness of NFP.
Develops and maintains community relationships to result in client referrals and resources.
Represents the NFP model and Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana’s vision, mission and values to both internal and external customers and colleagues.

Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), a maternal and early childhood home visiting program, fosters long-term success for first-time parents, their babies, and society. Nurse-Family Partnership's maternal health program introduces vulnerable first-time parents to registered nurses. This program allows nurses to deliver the support first-time parents need to have a healthy pregnancy, become knowledgeable and informed parents, and provide their babies with the best possible start in life. Nurse-Family Partnership has demonstrated statistically that this research-based program significantly improves critical outcomes for at-risk women and their children who receive services in local communities. Beginning with nurse home visits that occur during pregnancy and continue until the child is age two, Nurse Home Visitors provide coaching and care to first-time expectant mothers. The nurse develops therapeutic relationships and utilizes concepts of reflection and motivational interviewing with women and their families in a home visiting environment modeling client-centered, strengths-based, and solution-focused approaches. The Nurse Home Visitor maintains the highest standards in clinical nursing practice and adherence to the NFP model, as well as to policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards of NFP and of the lead agency, Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana.
