Job Summary

Clark County is looking for an experienced Park and Trails Planner II. This position is located within the Public Works Department, Parks and Lands Division. If you are passionate about parks, trails and open space planning, development and stewardship this is a great professional opportunity. You will be working on projects throughout the county in a park system that is truly unique. Clark County Parks provide diverse recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The park system includes both urban parks, regional recreation focused facilities and more traditional natural resource-based parks in natural areas and along shorelines.

 

The ideal candidate will be ready to join our team in the development of both neighborhood and community parks throughout the unincorporated area north of Vancouver as well as working with our operations team to plan, permit and implement major upgrades to our existing park infrastructure.  Project currently underway include the development of the 5 acre Kozy Kamp Park and the 16 Acre Curtin Creek Community Park with 6 more park planning and development projects identified in our current Capital Improvement Plan.

 

Planner IIs perform professional planning and development work in such areas as park master planning, trail master planning, resource management planning and park development management to name a few duties.

 

Planner II’s are assigned to projects and assignments that range from routine to highly complex, measured by a combination of the project’s complexity, scope, impact on the community or other relevant considerations. Examples would include major projects, controversial developments, those with the highest and most complex recreation system implications.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in planning, landscape architecture or a related field; AND 1 year of experience in a planning position comparable to a Planner I.

 

Knowledge of: Public agency and parks or public works facility planning, operations and financing; organizational and management practices as applied to the development of park and trails system plans and projects; capital program planning, scheduling, and monitoring; grants and contract administration; methods and procedures of finance including grants accounting; application and interpretation of county, state and federal laws and regulation relevant to park and trails capital planning and programs; stay current on trends and practices within park and trails system planning and development.

Salary Grade: Local 307.113 - Local 307.117 $31.77 - $46.16- per hour
